I have a Goffin Cockatoo or should I say she has me.Her name is Stella and she is not quite a year old. I absolutely adore her. She is very cuddilly and loves to be held. I take her out in the morning and as I am having my coffee she is sitting on my hand and resting on my chest. In between me sipping my coffee I am petting and preening her and she is just cooing like a baby. I do this for about 15-20 mins then proceed to make her breakfeast which consists of a soak & simmer warmed up bean type meal. She also gets her assortment of fresh veggies, fresh water, natural and fruit flavored pellets.
She gets this fresh every morning. She sits on her cage a number of times a day and I hold her many times per day. I DO allow her to sit on my shoulder only because she is very good there and rearly attempts to touch my ear. And if she does she is very easy and all I do is say NO and she stops. I have no problem getting her in and out of the cage and off my shoulder with the up & dn command. She listens very well. The only problem I have is that her wing feathers get soiled. This is not from my hands (I make sure they are clean). I think it is from dust on my clothes because she often snuggles against my body. My clothes are not dirty or soiled maybe just natural dust. I bath her 3-4 times a week with a mister bottle full of water and a bird bath and or a dander down solution. I then very carefully blow dry her and she just loves it. At times (mostly morning and evening) she is loud. That is where I seem to have a problem. I either talk to her in a very low voice and or cover her to make her stop. It really is not that bad. I just wish she would SAY something instead of screeching. But she is a love and she is one of the greatest pets I ever had. Before I put her down for the night my routine is to feed her pieces of whole grain white pieces of bread, watch tv with her walking around on my lap playing with a string of beads. This could last for 45mins to 2 hrs. During that time she never makes on me because I take her to her cage at least every 20 mins and say go potty and she has never failed me yet. I look forward to being home just to play with her. I have two dogs who are no problem. (I am very careful when Stella is on her cage or on my lap) Well now I hope you have an idea of me and my Stella. She brings me much much happiness. If anyone has any suggestions out there I would appreciate your advice. Thanks Dan |

Welcome to the board! Another cockatoo lover! Love it
As for the screaming, most cockatoos have two times during the day when they act out. Mine do it in the morning and in the evening. I take it as a sign of their happiness to be alive, and actually encourage it!!! We have a goffins (Sassy) and she is a mess. Her screaming has toned down considerably, however, she is completely spoiled and she has hubby wrapped around her little finger! As for the talking, Sassy doesn't say a whole lot and she is 2. She has just now learned how to say "peek a boo". Out of my four cockatoos, only 2 of them are good talkers; Sassy says the one word, and my LSC says "hello". Please do post pictures. Again, welcome to the board.
