I Want to Say Hello

Hi everyone..my name is Jerri, please checkout my profile...my family just brought home a 12 year old cockatoo...we are new to owning a bird, but we want to give her a great home....she is somewhat set in her ways (the bird) and we saved her from a pet store that is going under. she has kinda been passed around for awhile...so please don't get upset with me if i ask alot of questions...i just really want this to be her last (forever) home. i have ordered a training package to help us...just has not gotten here yet.

Hi Jerri, welcome to Bird Board.I don't have a Too, but I am familiar with the woes of an often re-homed conure.Ask away, that's why we're here.

That's such a great goal for you to have. Congratulations on your new bird!

Hello. I have just joined recently and also have a cockatoo. She is between 2 & 3 years old. We took her out of a bad situation and are working with her. What kind of training package did you order? I may be interested in getting one.

hi everyone great to meet all of you......as far as the training package, i went to birdtricks.com by Chet Womach and ordered one from him....i got it in the mail and have started watching and reading....so far we are trying to make sure she is eating right and well...and how much she is eating. she is wanting to come to me know, but i have just been letting her walk on top of her cage and i have been going to her and rubbing her..( wings, back of neck, and under her beak) i have not let her step up yet..as we are gaining trust with each other right now.....it is working as far as i know for now. am going to try letting her step up to my hand this coming week....so wish me luck.....

hello and welcome :)
I do not have a cockatoo now but I did have a citron cockatoo for many years...Which I lost Which was DEVASTATING
But I do know how strange cockatoos can be. Mine was also a rehome situation. I brought him home from a bird fair. He was being sold as a breeder and they didn't know he could talk..that is until I walked by and he said Hello, and peek a boo! Of course he HAD to come home.
he did have his issues..he was a one person bird...My husband was NOT tolerated and was attacked if he came to close. Actually all men pretty much..but he did like most women.
Just be loving and gentle and give him time!
If there is anything I can help with..don't hestitate to ask!
