Smile Hi everyone

My name is Pat, & I live in Trenton, IL. I joined BirdBoard in January. I have really enjoyed reading all the posts about parrotlets. I have had budgies all my life...the first one was a birthday gift at age 9. I have also had 2 cockatiels. One lived with us for 22 yrs. It was like loosing a child when he died.

But this is our first parrotlet, and we are along for the ride. Our Paulie is a Pacific green and he is nearly 10 months old. We got him at 7 weeks and he's had us ever since. He eats whatever I put in his cage, he swings and plays all day long and talks up a storm. I am learning more about him every day.
I just thinks he's the greatest!

Hi Pat! Welcome :-). My grown daughter recently saw some baby parrotlets, and fell in love. I think she's thinking about getting one. They're such little cuties! Since you have one, can you tell us how noisy it is? She lives in an apartment....

Hi Everyone

H There! Parrotlets are sure cute ones but you need to discipline them as they can get out of hand at times. They are cousins to the Love Birds, from South America and the Love Bird is from Africa.
I had a very sweet baby last year that was a Green, Mom is a yellow split to blue and Dad is a green split to blue but they only have given us green babies so far. I got lucky with this little one as she stayed sweet while she weaned. I had two young girls that handled her a lot so it wasn't just me but she sure was a nice baby. She is doing quite well in her new home so far and was so different from the other Parrotlets I have raised. They seem to get a little "flighty" when they start to wean.
Glad you are enjoying your new little one!
Alice

He can be noisey at times but I don't think tthe noise would bother anyone. It's mostly when he is waiting for me to get his meals ready! He loves to eat! Most of the time he plays...I can't say quietly though...he's slamming toys and
swinging. So much fun to watch. I hadn't seen a parrotlet until we picked Paulie up from his breeder...just pictures. I was also amazed at house small he is. He weighed 33 grams at 7 weeks when we picked him up. And they told us that's big for a parrotlet!

That probably is because budgies weigh 33 and up and parrotlets are smaller than budgies!

Thanks for the info :-). I held one for the first time yesterday (took a few minutes to get him calmed down, after that he was a real sweetie), and I was totally charmed by the tiny little thing! A little, itty-bitty amazon in miniature--how cute is that? I thought I MUST have one, until my spouse reminded me that Bob could swallow him in just one bite *grins*. Bob is a jealous boy, so I think I'll just have to admire the little guys from afar, especially if my daughter does choose to purchase one.
