Hello

Hi, I'm new here, and to be honest, the reason that I joined is because my budgie just died, and I felt the need to be surrounded by other bird lovers...
I've had him for five years now and I think he was about seven when I got him, but I'm not sure...
I was just up on the computer writing when I heard a noise from his cage so I went to check it out and he was lying on the ground with one wing out. So I picked him up and held him and offered him water, but he just lay there, breathing weakly and then...died.
He was the prettiest bird I've ever seen, and the people I got him from had raised him from an egg. He was blue and white and very, very smug... The few times we had to get his wings clipped (moving and the like) he'd sit in the back of his cage, facing the walls, and sulk for days.

...I'm sorry if this isn't the correct "thread" to post nostalgic musings, but I really just need a place where people understand that a bird can be just as much of a companion as a dog or any other pet.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's awful when a loved pet passes. He sounded like a real character. ((hugs)) for you.

I am sorry it was such a sad event that brought you to Birdboard but we do understand. Most of us at some point have suffered the same loss and had to deal with non-bird people who don't understand. We have a memorial section if you want to post a tribute to your dearly departed fid.

((hugs)) I'm so sorry.

I haven't had any birds die yet, but have had other animals pass and know how it feels. Remember you can always talk to us. Birdboard is a great place, and i'm sure you'll have good times here.

Hello

So sorry to read of your birds passing.
While this has left you with a heavy heart I can only say that it is the joy they bring us that we will miss the most but they are forever in our hearts.

I also wish to offer my sympathies. They take a piece of us with them when they go. However I believe that to honor their memory, it would be a good idea to check the rescues or breeders and look for another little bird. They are probably just waiting for you to come and find them. After all, you have the cage and the rest of the stuff.

If you do decide to take my sage advice, be sure to really disinfect everything and replace the wooden toys and perches just to be on the safe side.

It is said that 'bird people' are truely part of another world, as it's not quite the same per say as caring for a dog or cat... Birds tend to be more family like (or maybe that's human like?) than a cat or dog can be (not to put either one out though). It's just different in it's own special way.

It sounds like your budgie had a good life however and that he was well loved.
