Hello, I'm new

Hey,
I'm new to Birdboard and I have a problem. I have one budgie, a female called Shrbert, or Sherbie for sort. I bought her having been told that she was a he. She is not very affectionate, or confident for that matter and I am considering giving her to my friend who breeds in return for a hand-reared baby. I've had Sherbie for a while now and she doesn't seem to be taming much. She will sit on my finger but she won't relax and I wonder if she wouldn't be happier in an avery with other birds. What do you think???

If you were to rehome her then yes she'd be happier... however it takes time to tame a bird, and some birds are just harder to tame than others. Why not keep her and get a handraised baby too??? Maybe she'd learn a thing or two from a sweet baby???

Hello, Welcome to birdboard! I think that you have to be more patient with your baby...birds sometimes need long period to be tamed. That is only if you would like to keep her, but if you don't want to keep her any more. Be sure that she will be happy to live with other birds...
Also the idea of Monica in getting new baby is great....

Sherbie is a yellow-faced blue recessive pied cinnamon wing. Mouthful isn't it?
I've been working with her for a while but she just isn't comfortable outside her cage. Now when I think back, I shouldn't have gotten her from where I did. It was a large pet shop called the Australian Bird Co. She was in a bin with lots of other birds, all of which were larger than her and she was probably handled alot, and roughly.
When I get her out she squawks and flies away. Sometimes she relaxes but this is not very often and even then if something startles her she withdrawss again.
She was more relaxed when I was baby-sitting my friend's bird and I think she would be happier with other birds in an avery.

Talking Whats up

Hi welcome to the fourm. Well I got my keet from the large been of birds to. I was told that they are flock birds and that means you took them from there flock. Pepole on this board told me to give it time to get use to your hand pretty soon it will start to think you are its flock. My advice is to not give up on it just keep trying.
