oh neat. i had a indian female, 17 yrs ago. i handfed from the 2nd week. she was vicous(drew blood) before she ever weaned. I thought she would be like my tiels i used to breed. how young and stupid of me. ive seen the alexandrine at a bird mart. i would love to get one, kinda afraid after the indian experience. how are they compared to indians?

I can't speak for the Indians, but my alex is an absolute sweet heart!! Plus she was previously owned, and not socialized much at all. The first 2 weeks were fun....couldn't touch her, she WOULD NOT step up, bit me a time or two on the fingers, but with respect for her and what she did and did not want and persistance, she is actually TOO loving and friendly now. Shall I say SPOILED ROTTEN....she thinks the whole world wants to rub her head now and can't understand why in the world someone would actually try to close her cage door! She is fully free to fly, except when I am gone or doors are open, and she is determined never to be a peaceful caged bird in the corner ever again! She knows where she fits in the family and that's where she's staying!
