Hello, my name is...

....LaRissa and I'm from central California. I have 2 children, a 3 year old boy and a 1 year old girl. I've been married for 6 years, but with my husband for 9. I'm a stay at home mom. We have a toy poodle, a turtle, a beta fish, and a new CAG will not be home with us until July.

I used to own a Sun Conure. I had him for 8 years. He died 2 years ago. I bought him from a breeder near my parents house when I was just out of high school. He was my baby before he even had feathers! I really loved him. I moved out of my parents house when I married my husband and I took Crayon with me to our appartment. He did fine there because we were away from the parking lot, and cars did not bother him. But months later when we bought a house, Crayon was not happy. The cars driving by (our house is on a corner lot with moderate traffic) drove him nuts. My parents house was out in the country and the dogs taught him to "bark" when anyone drove down the driveway... well, in town he didn't like all the cars driving by. So, I moved him back to my parents house... my mother loved him too, so Crayon was happy to be back "home". My mom said the night before he got sick he took a bath in the evening, and only in hindsight did my mom notice that there had been an undetected draft from the A/C blowing on him. We think that's what made him sick. But, in hindsight, some of the toys he had could have contributed to his illness. I inspected some of the old toys he used to have (even though they were store bought) and some had regular wire(it didn't look stainless steel to me) and the old key chain loops at the bottom. He could've died from metal poisoning too... who knows. We cried and cried though, because he was such a good, good bird. But that's my story about Crayon, my late Sun Conure. I sure wish I knew about a board like this when he was around... it's crazy how much I'm learning! I'm thankful that I didn't just breeze by thinking I knew it all or somethin'.

My husband and our family love riding quads, so that's kinda our hobby. And that pretty much sums me up!!

Oh, you should also know that I've very computer illiterate. Despite taking 3 computer classes in college and scoring A's... I still suck at computers. So, if it takes 5 years until I have my SIL put up a picture... well, I'm sorry, lol!! But that's about it.

Welcome to BB La Rissa! Glad you are joining us. My daughter has a Sun and she's a real sweety. Her name is Skittles. Crayon...that's really cute and it certainly describes these beauties. Sorry about your loss...we have all had that terrible experience and know how it hurts. I think you will learn a lot here...I know I do.

Welcome, La Rissa :-). I have a sweet Sun Conure named Petey McSweet. We don't know his gender, so someday we may have to rename "him" Petra if we find out "he's" a she :-). He loves women and hates men.

One of our members, Monica, is very helpful, and she's made a tutorial about how to upload photos, here:

I look forward to hearing about your new Congo baby! I have a baby Greenwing named Arthur due to come home in a month or so, so we can swap stories and pix here on the board. We always love to see pix!

Hi Larissa , welcome. I , like you, "thought' I knew a lot about birds but in the few months that I've been here I've learned SSSSOOOO much that I had no idea about !!! What a vast improvement it has made on my birds life , as well as mine. I thank God every day that I stumbled across this site. You'll never come across so many caring , helpful , and wonderful people as this place offers , I don't think. So as they say , pull up a perch and chat!
