Welcome to Birdboard, deedee :-).

You may want your avian vet give you instructions about handfeeding. If you don't have an avian vet, you're going to want to find one before that baby comes home!

Welcome to Birdboard! Regarding your handfeeding question, this is something you really need to learn in person. Good people to try are avian vets, breeders, pet stores or bird clubs.

Welcome to the board. I agree with the others, handfeeding is an art. It has to be learned by seeing and hands on training. NOW is the time to go to your local vet, petstore or breeder and PROPERLY learn how to do it. Knowing that one mistake could easily kill such a young baby bird should motivate you to find help today. Don't want to scare you, but its THAT important. Also you need to make sure you have the proper handfeeding supplies. You need a handfeeding formula SPECIFIC to macaws. Regular handfeeding formulas are too low in fat. You need proper handfeeding syringes, disinfectants, a food therometer, gram scale and other things to do it safely. Don't even try it if you don't have a gram scale. Its your number one indicator of problems before they get out of hand. Good luck.
