But not to bird ownership. ;)
I posted in the Conure section, didn't realize there was an introductory forum. I'm awful at reading directions. Just last Sunday I became a foster-mom to a pair of Conures. Gunner is a 1 yr old(approx) male Jenday, and Sunshine is a 1 yr old (approx) female Sun.(couldn't have guess that one I bet ;) ) I am fostering in hopes of permanently placing these very friendly kids in our home. I have 4 human kids, although 1 is out of the house now....3 dogs...and a cockatiel and 2 budgies. My husband and kids really enjoy our birds, although my youngest daughter is having a bit of an issue with the new conures and their noise. I joined looking for advice, since I've never owned conures before. I've always had birds, and they've all for the most part been friendly...lovebirds, tiels, parakeets, quaker(and I thought HE was loud!), finches, and a Red Lory many years ago(murdered by the lovebirds). I have already read some great advice, and am hoping to get some feedback on my post in the conure section regarding the outrageously constant screeching. That is the ONLY issue standing in our way here in regards to permanent adoption. We can handle 'typical' noise levels with birds...but these 2 guys are SO attention seeking that they screech almost constantly when not ON one of us. I am trying to find good tactics to help lessen this. I don't mind occasional or time-of-day related noise, it's just the constant 'I want to be ON you' stuff that's getting hard to get used to, especially for my youngest daughter. We really like these birds ALOT...they are of course beautiful...they have distinct and fun personalities(male is MUCH more outgoing)...have not tried to bite once in the week we've had them. I have a large cage for them, bought them toys, various foods, made them a sleeping box, and have moved them up from our basement playroom/office to the kitchen thinking they might just want to be in the same area as the rest of us, even though we spend alot of time downstairs. I'm hoping that move will help and they'll be happier and more content...meaning MAYBE less screechy? (wishful thinking?) I'd LOVE any advice from experienced conure owners. We would really love for this to work out. Thanks!!! |

I don't know how this site works yet, but hopefully my siggy pic will work. I only have one kind of clear pic of one of the birds...this is Sunshine. Don't know if you'll recognize this kind of bird though.

Welcome to Birdboard. Your Sun is gorgeous, of course--aren't they all? My Petey McSweet isn't so lovey-dovey--he likes to be held on his terms, not mine :-). I imagine you'll find all the info you could hope for, and then some, on this site!
