Red face Are you ready for me?

lol: I am a new and first time mommy of a parrot. I bought a Senegal Parrot. He has been such a blesssing. He is a joy. Very well manared 1 yr old. As a new mommy I want to be perfect and make sure he has the best care, so you guys will be seeing my name a lot as i start to pour on the questions. It is nice to speak to other bird owners as I do not know many. The ones I do know, are not as , lets say....attentive as I am. My first concern to bring to you all is am I giving Pizan enough attention. I work a lot. I am gone from 6am to 5:15 pm. My husband gets home around 3:00. I start off my morning with Pizan getting ready with me. We shower and he plays on the makeup counter while I get ready. He wont play with his toys but loves my contact case and chewing on my leather makeup bag! Anyway, we spend that time in the morning together and he goes into his castle for the day. Which is in front of our patio door so he has full view of back yard. He is partly against the wall so he can take shade if he needs it. When I get home, he is cage free for the night until i put him into another smaller . We usually eat together and I take him for a walk. He loves the shoulder rides. and believe it or not, he hasnt pooped on me yet. I love him!! I really feel guilty the time I am away from him. Do you think he gets too lonely during the day? Should I get him a mate? Yesterday I didnt get home until 7:30 and my husband worked a double. He wasnt too happy when I got home. Now that it is getting darker sooner I think he goes into his quiet zone sooner? Does that make sense? Last week I took him to a parrot training class offered here locally. That was fun. We spent the entire day together. He loves going bye bye. I took him into Petsmart and he rode on the cart looking at all that came in his view. He was so cute! People were in awe of his tamesness. Anyway, see how I get distracted.. I am so excited to talk to bird people! Any advice to give me is appreciated... I have more questions to come...

Thanks

Maria

I am not an expert but from what I do know, if you get him a mate, you may lose your bird. I was always told if you want your bird to stay the way he is, don't put another in with him. He will bond with the other bird & may forget all about you. My grandma had a little Parakeet, he was the sweetest little thing. Never mean, gave kisses, talked, etc. Then she got him a friend. He turned evil! You couldn't touch him or anything. The vet said it was because he bonded with the other bird. I also work alot, 6 days a week but only in the evenings. Which works out cause I'm home durning the day & my hubby at night. He never takes the babies out but talks to them all the time. I take them out when I get home from work. Try finding things that she likes & give them to her to play with durning the day. It might help. Crystal

Hi & Welcome - your enthusiasm is palatable.
You've come to the right place! We all love to talk bird. I love Toos & Macaws but probably will never have one but I sure enjoy reading all the threads on them.
Sennies (& their kin) are facinating to me & anything you post will probably be read. Good luck with Pizan - great name.

There are some great photos posted so we will be interested in yours for sure.
Put them into the Album on the blue bar above &/or use the Manage attachments box below the reply window.

Re: not being around - do you leave the radio or TV on or are they on timers? I used to tape shows for my son - commercial free - of gentle stuff. Even my budgie loves TreeHouse TV for kids. At least you don't have to worry about the language - but I'd worrry about the commercials because they are so repetative & loud.

Welcome, Maria.

It sounds like you're off to a good start.

I agree with "Conure & Macaw Mom" about not getting a mate for Pizan. He clearly loves you and I doubt you'd want to change that bond in any way.

We want pictures!

Welcome Marla!

May I say I LOVE that name for your bird!

I also worry a bit about not being home enough -- or even not giving enough attention to my grey when I am home. I do my best to leave the TV or radio on for him.
I think a lot of us on here who work full time have the same concerns. You're in good company.

But it sounds like you're doing a great job so far!
