Smile New Member/Green Cheek Conure

Hello, my name is Steve & I just bought a Green Cheek Conure. I also have a Cockatiel and two parakeets. I read all about Green Cheeks online and in a couple books, but i was just curious if anyone would like to share any information with me about them from their experiences that maybe a book would not have. My conure was supposedly born on February 12 of 2006, so that would make him almost 8 months. How big should he be by now? He seems rather small compared to pictures I've seen on some websites.

Thanks

Welcome to BB! I don't have a breen cheek, but I've got a blue crown. I was just at a local pet store yesterday & the green cheeks I I saw there were pretty small, about 1/2 to 3/4 the size of my blue crown (not including his tail tho, just his body size)....

hey steve,
my name is bee, and i also have a GCC. his name is valo and he's the cutes little guy in the world (which is probably the reason why he can get away with so many things ). valo's a baby too... he was hatched in may.
do you have photos? please post!
also, check out the conure forum - you can find a lot of useful information for your baby-bird there.
how big is your GCC... valo's not particulary big either, however they also don't become as big as for example nandays....

welcome to BB - great to have another human owned by a GCC on board!

GCC don't normally get as big as cockatiels do... they are one of the smaller conure species out there, so to speak, he'll probably be as big as he'll ever be.

Congrats on the new addition and welcome to BB!

Welcome to the board Steve! We have a cinn. green cheek - Zoey. We've only had her for about 3 weeks - so we're still getting to know each other. She was hatched on 7-8-06 - she's a little smaller than our tiels. (though I've seen quite a few tiels a lot bigger than ours!) I've read the typical length for GCC's is aprrox. 12".

If you got to this thread http://www.birdboard.com/forum/showt...536#post266536 I put a few links to some web sites I like and a video and another memeber posted some books she liked I think.

You're little guy is a cutie! Can't wait to hear more about him!

Hi Steve! Your GC looks about right size wise. Do you have a scale to weigh him/her? It's always a good idea to do periodic (say weekly) weigh-ins, because it's often hard to tell if a bird is losing weight until the situation is really serious. By the way, my Quito was born on Feb. 16!
