Newbie lurking!

Hello there Bird Board! My name is Kate and I'm new to these forums and am very impressed with the wealth of information I've uncovered just by lurking so far :)

I grew up with horses, sun and green cheek conures, cats and golden retrievers and am now living on my own with an orange tabby cat and a growing savings account reserved for a severe macaw (or possibly another mini species, but I know a baby severe I'm quite infatuated with).

So hopefully I'll be here to read your wonderful stories, gush over your beautiful birds, and soak in as much information as I can before I can finally share my own stories and post my own pictures

Hello and thank you!

I was actually just looking at your thread with Romeo's pictures on them! He is just too beautiful for words, I take it you have been enjoying eachother so far? I'm not sure if I'll have enough money saved up for the severe I just adore before he sells, but I'm going in tomarrow to discuss down payment options to hold him. He's not weened yet so I still might have some time.

I'm very jealous, thank you for sharing your pictures!

We get along great! I still have to hand feed him once a day. He's the biggest baby! He wants to be held & cuddled all the time. I can't have kids so I enjoy it. He just melts my heart when he tells me "I love you" It makes it hard to leave him. I think he does it cause he knows I'll come back for another kiss. I'm sure they will let you put a deposit on the baby since he is still hand feeding. Crystal

I've gone in to visit him a few times and was planning to do that tomarrow but I think I'll talk to them about deposits as well. I want to get his cage, a few toys and a decent sized playstand before I buy him so it will all depend on how much the deposit would be. By himself he costs $999 (with a 15% discount on his cage from the same breeder if I buy it there). Would you mind me asking how much you paid for yours? I live in Southern CA and birds seem to be slightly more expensive here (just like everything else).

The good thing about this particular bird (or at least one from this breeder) is that they give free grooming (wings/nails/etc) for the rest of the birds life which is really an amazing offer IMO and they really care about their animals.

I don't mind at all. I paid $750 for him. I got him from the same breeder that I got Bonita from. The breeder also will do free grooming for life. She's such a nice lady. She really cares about her birds. If there is a bird show in your area anytime soon try to go. They have good deals on cages, toys, etc. thats where I got mine. I got 2 monsterous cages for $400. One is over 6 ft high. I have to use the foot stool to reach the top. Crystal

Do you know a good way to research bird shows? I'm having trouble with google, but perhaps I'm just searching for the wrong thing. I know that they have them periodically I just don't know how to go about finding them.

Now I wish I lived in GA, congrats on your beautiful baby.

Another resource could be the BirdTalk Magazine website.
