Laker has done that recently too - the pecking at my thumb nail in particular, with great determination. At the time I was more interested in getting him to stop so I blew on him & said 'no' a few times + back into the cage he goes - time out. Talking to him always is a good distraction.

In hindsight when I think about his bad behavior, I wonder if my hands have food smells or cream smells that he likes or doesn't like??? He absolutely refuses to step-up with my husband if he's been out for a smoke & forgot to wash up afterwards - & he's Laker's favourite person!

As time goes on he seems less likely to bite - I have to admit that I am pretty relaxed about the biting & that may not be the best attitude. Of course I don't want it to become a constant between us but if he feels his space is threatened then I'm the one who has to learn to warn him I'm going to put that evil hand in his cage to deal with his food or go slow. If he was a bigger bird I'd be in real trouble, so I'm greatful his bites are annoying.

How old is Cheeto?

rescues

I read where you were looking for a bird rescue in WV. I am the founder of Parrotdise Bird Rescue located in Mineral Wells, WV. We typically specialize in the larger birds. There is also Raven's Haven also located in Parkersburg and they typically rescue the smaller species. Please feel free to look over our sites. I wish I could get my name out more, we are always looking for wonderful homes for our rescues.

I would also like to add that Parrotdise Rescue is planning on posting the adoptable birds on Petfinder, however, you need to be a 501(c)3 and we are now in the beginning steps of becoming one. It takes quite some time, but eventually, I plan on using petfinder to help find good homes for our rescues.

Hi.

Welcome to the board.

Did you try www.petfinder.com. and then put in bird and your zipcode or state. You should be able to find a rescue in your area.

Take care.
