I am also new here, My name is Amanda, I live in Lafayette, LA. I have one Umbrella Cockatiel, FEMALE name SOLOMAN. An elderly woman around 80 had her and couldn't take care of her any more. She took her to the pet shop in the mall cage toys and all. I had always wanted a bird. My mother (which didn't raise me) died about 4 yrs ago and had mental problems and needed to be hospitialized ALL MY LIFE. She had bought a lot of Bural Policy's and we laid her to rest got every thing paid for with her policys even a head stone and money left over. My sister said (you know she never gave us any thing and with the 500.00 dollars each we got off the policy, lets get us something that we can keep instead of paying bills). I started looking for my bird. I looked on the computer and finally called the pet shops here and Durals (pet shop) and they said that they had one. I went and Soloman was so sad looking in her cage and I asked to hold her. The lady said you need to put on the gloves because she bites. I put them on and Soloman came down the gloves and Bite me on the skin. I handed her back to the woman and said I WANT HER. She looked at me like I was nuts. She said are you sure? I said yes I am. Well NEEDLESS TO SAY SHE WAS A LOT MORE THEN 500.00. I brought her home and worked with her and now she is spoiled rotten. She will let you know when it is time to go to bed. She says HELLO SOLOMAN, SHE SAYS MAMMA LOUDLY, SHE SAYS WHAT CHA DOING, I do not leave her when I got on trips, she rides on my head rest in my car and constantly says, WHAT CHA DOING. She ducks down so she can see the cars that we pass on the highway. I also have a persian that is scared to death of the birds. Soloman will put him on the run. His name is MENEW. French for CAT. His real name is Classy but he don't know himself as that he just knows MENEW. I have had my animals for about 4 years, Soloman is COCKATOO- is 11. I received my Cockatiel from my daughter in MO that couldn't stand the noise of TWEETY whisteling. She had him in the base ment by a window. I couldn't stand it when I went up there so I had to bring him home with me and Saturday went to the Bird show and bought them both a new cage. There awesome. I also bought TWEETY a FEMALE(I hope she is a female). I have bad allergies that I just contracted in NOVEMBER OF 2005. Never had problems with allergies. I use to brush my persian every night. Now I can't touch him. AT ALL. I take two shots a week. I advised the allergist that she would have to do something for me because I can't get rid of my animals. that isn't an option.

Amanda, you sound like me. I wouldn't give up my babies either. My ex once told me it was him or the animals. Well, we're not together anymore, guess he didn't like my answer. I told my hubby before we got together, "this is a package deal, take it or leave it." He took it & loves me & all the babies. Crystal

I can't figure out how to post my pictures on my signature. I have been working on this since, around 12:00 today and its now 2:45. I have tried every thing I have found on here. I tried adding tags, I have went to user cp and we to edit signature, and when I add the pictures it said that there is no post or something about this at this time. I don't know what else to do.
