Finally introducing myself

Hi there, my name is Richard. I've been lurking around here for some time now, and finally picked up my Red-Lored today. So i am now owned by Loki, as you can tell by my UN. The guy i bought him/her from didn't know too much about its past. Only that he is around 2 years old. I plan to take him to the AV this weekend and make sure he/she is in good health and do the dna sexing.

Loki has been VERY quiet for the past few hours. It is just sitting on its perch, right in the middle. I'm sure he's just scared and stressed, but he looks too calm.

He looks very pretty. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting a red lored, so you'll have to tell us all about him as you learn. Congratulations.

Thanks for the kind words. He's already loosened up some and has starting exploring his new home and toys. I left some apple and banana in to see if he'd be interested, but he wanted nothing to do with it. He was on a parrot mix diet only.

Welcome Richard and Loki. My Red Lored "D" sends out a welcoming wing flap! You have a beautiful bird there, but could it be a "lilac crown". That coloring looks much more like the lilac crown than the red lored. Your Avian vet will be able to help you with this.
First photo is my "D".
2nd photo is a lilac crown.

KP, you could be right! The guy I bought him from was definitely no expert and was just going on what somebody else told him. I shouldn't talk though, i am no expert either.

I have a book on Amazons, and looking at both the LCA and RLA, the head coloring looks very similar. Is there something else i can look to figure it out???

Richard, I'm no expert either, I just remembered someone one the board had lilac crowns and they looked very similar to yours. I just 'googled' lilac crown image and found several photos. What ever your Loki is, he's beautiful and sure to give you lots of fun and enjoyment.
There is a lot of info on this board and I'm sure that others will join in. Why don't you post his photo on the Amazon section and see what other amazon owners think?
