New Here w/ New Parakeets

Hello Everyone! My name is Barb. I am 43. My husband Jeff and I live in North Carolina. We have 4 great kids. Our oldest daughter Lauren is married and has two little kids. We just got two cute cute young 2 1/2 month old parakeets last night. One is a all yellow female with green on it's feathers. The other one is powder blue & white! I bought them a Very Nice Cage that has 3 roofs! It's a nice size where they can play and being able to strecth out. I didn't want to get a cage that I was going to have to get rid of once they grew to normal size. We are also wanting a cockatiel as well. I have the cage picked out for the cockatiel too. We are going in a few weeks to pick out a baby one and the lady is hand raising (feeding ) it for us. I've heard it's better to get cockatiels hand fed. I am so excited about being apart of this community and getting to know other bird owners.

Hi Barb,I am in NC too,love it here! I have 50 fids total,24 are budgies and 11 tiels 2 of those are 4 wks old SOOO cute!welcome to the board

Thanks for the warm welcome! I will try to post pics as soon as the babies get comfortable being here. I don't want to take them into shock by scaring them with a flash I will post them soon though.

I am not sure what king of Tiel we are getting I like the Grey's with the yellow head's well the hair that sticks straight up! What are those called? My family is joking with me saying they are going to name my Tiel Barb because I wear my hair spiked somewhat!!

Where in NC are you? We are close ( well 60 miles ) from Raleigh!
I love it here too! I was born in Charleston, but raised here since I was 9 years old so we call it home!

Welcome, Barb! Sounds like lovely little babies - budgie babies are the best! Cockatiels are wonderful birds as well. The tiel feathers on their heads are called crests - we call Lulu's her mohawk

Do you plan on taming your little budgies? It is possible to do - and I only have one budgie who is tame, but he is an absolute joy and a blast to have around

Here's a photo of my Mother's male Tiel Mo - he's a normal & Alice the female is a Lutino [white]. I am partial to the white faced ones & the Pearl hens (although the males are lovely too!)

Go on the web in search of Cockatiels & you'll start to see the variety.

hey barb, welcome to BB. i love budgies - they are great and so much fun to have around. i also love tiels - my dad has one (although that's a different story). i'm owned by a very head strong green cheek conure named valo... he sure keeps me busy.
