Re: Hello!

Welcome! Sounds like you have quite the flock. My wife was born and raised in MI. She lived in the Warren/Detroit area though. The woods of Michigan are beautiful, but theres something to be said about the lake effect snows.

Warren? OMG. I have a Warren story. Back in my younger days, I was sent to Warren to repair some computers at the plant there where they manufactured tanks. (very interesting place, especially the area where they test the new tanks by seeing if they will indeed go up 45 degree slopes and across trenches - but that is another story).

My story involves COLD! I was born and raised in the deep South here and even though I have spent some time in New England and even in a blizzard in Denver, I never experienced the cold that comes off the lake and blows into Detroit. All my life, I thought I dried my hands properly after washing them but it didn't take but a couple weeks in Warren to discover I had not ever dried the back of them properly. That icy wind coming off the lake onto the back of my freshly washed but not quite dry hands had me almost frostbitten very soon.

It was so cold when I was there that many things changed. I had to get a sticker for the car so I could go on the plant property because it was a military complex of sorts. They gave me the sticker and advised I not try to put it on the bumper until it was a bit warmer outside. Well the sun was shining and there was no wind and the air didn't seem that cold, so I figured it was warm enough to apply the sticker to the car.

What I didn't realize was the bumper was solid metal and it was a whole lot colder than the air. Like sticking ones tongue to a frozen lamp post, the sticker disintegrated as soon as it came into contact with the bumper and I had to go back inside and get another one.

I was lucky I didn't get my Yankee Greencard revoked for that one and I was most happy to leave that assignment after a month.

Re: Hello!

I lived in northeast Indiana, where I met my wife. I only lasted 4 years there though. Just couldn't handle the winters. The winters here in Missouri are mild. We get more ice than snow. we seem to be just at the parting line between snow and rain most of the time. After the dry year we have had, and the mild winter of last season, I think we are in for a good winter this year though.
