I have an embarressing secret!!!!!!

Hi, my name is Jessica, and this is my first time joining a bird forum. I have 6 cockatiels and 4 parakeets. I am hoping to get one or two larger birds sometime in the near future. I am a stay-at-home mom (except I occassionally teach karate for local school and summer programs), and I have 3 great children ages 9,7, and 6.

I have a very embarressing secret about why I decided to join this group. I often find myself talking about birds to my family, friends, and neighbors. Okay, okay... I know that doesn't sound bad, but wait! I didn't finish my story yet. I talk to them about birds even though I can tell by the looks on their faces (and sometimes the sighs, groans, or even direct comments like "Please, not another bird story" ) that they could care less about what I have to say about birds and would probably rather have me poke them in their eye than listen to me ramble on and on about birds, lol! Hahahahahahhahahaha, I am here laughing at myself, but in my defense... I need someone to talk to about this kind of stuff! They are so mean! Does anyone else out there have this same problem?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!!

Anyway, here I am sharing one of my deepest darkest secrets with all of you--complete strangers-- in hopes that I can make some new bird-loving friends...or...at the very least make you laugh. Please take a second to say hello if you don't mind and tell me about yourself and birds! Also, I don't have experience with any other types of birds, so I'd also be interested to hear about what kind of birds you have and to learn about them.

Talk to you soon! Jessica

Jessica, Not sure, but I believe you just made about sixty new friends instantly here. My advice is, get rid of the husband and buy the darn birds.;D

Hi Donald, nice to meet you. Hmmm, that sounds like good adcive, but I don't know if I can take it. At least not the part of getting rid of my husband. I mean, who else is going to change the oil in my car, take out the trash, and remove the big nasty spiders I find in the basementl?!?!?!?! Jessica

Re: I have an embarressing secret!!!!!!

Well let's see here.... Jiffy Lube could take care of the oil changes, the 9 year old should be strong enough to handle the trash in another year or so and some softbilled birds eat spiders.... You're all set!

Of course if the hubs is good for any other things, like flowers and dinner in your favorite restaurant occasionally, then you might run into a bit of trouble.

Its a tough choice I'm sure. :-\

Hello Jessica,

Your story made me smile. I can relate to you very well.

Fortunately, all, or most of my friends are bird people such as myself and can relate to my stories.

If you're looking for a place to talk birds, then you've come to the right place.

Welcome and feel free to chat away.

Michael

Re: I have an embarressing secret!!!!!!

I know EXACTLY what you mean! Too many folks think "birds smell" --ohh, I've heard that so many times! People ask me how we live in the house with them. It's funny--I invite them over and they are shocked that the walls are not covered in down and droppings.

I work in a hospital, and I get the looks from staff members when anyone asks me about my parrots. I presume the think I'm 'weird' but that's okay by me! I do have one ace in the hole; our neurosurgeon is a parrot owner himself, who, like me, has a caique, amazon, and a quaker. I have those and then some! So if you can group me in the company of neurosurgeouns and the likes of the bunch here, then strange or weird is what I love to be!

You know, they never really understand until they start allowing themselves to be in the company of parrots. Until they do, they just don't get it. Our little secret.
