Hello from Seattle!
Hi all,
My name is Theresa, and I am the soon-to-be owner of a gorgeous Citron Cockatoo. His name is Cricket. My husband raises exotic herps (poison dart frogs, geckos, etc), we have two guinea pigs (Lima and Esther), as well as a golden retriver/chow mix named Punkin. (This doesn't cover the animals raised to feed the other animals!) This will be my first large bird. I've always been fascinated by them! It just happened that one of my husband's exotic animal owner friends needs to rehome his bird after a marriage breakup. I have met Cricket and found him to be gentle, happy, and easy going. His laaarge cage and perch will be coming to our home this week. I can't wait to start bonding with him! Any suggestions about getting to know a new bird, getting them relax with you, etc., would be much appreciated. I know it will take some time - and I'm willing to put in the effort needed. I'm glad to have found this site! Theresa |

Re: Hello from Seattle!
Hi Jason - thanks for the welcome. :)
I will check out that article. Yes, this will be my first large bird. I have been around numerous smaller birds since I was young. None of them my own - so I am excited to begin this relationship. I will get photos up as soon as I can. Thanks! Theresa |

Re: Hello from Seattle!
congrats, you will know a new kind of love. Just speak softly and lovingly, don't "chase" the bird if he isn't ready to step up and try to "hand" feed and give kisses. my second sun conure wasn't too sure after a few days and now he repeats everything I say and protects his "girlfriend" and is a great family member.
