Parrot Owned from Mass
My name is Amanda and I am owned by a 7 yr old Vos Ekkie named Ruby. She's a handful and a holy terror but we love her anyway. :) I am preparing to bring home my second parrot, a Bronze Winged Pionus, in the coming weeks. It's so exciting!
Go figure my first parrot experience would be with a bird with some serious baggage, not to mention one of the oddball species in the parrot group. But that's ok, I wouldn't give her up for the world. I'm learning so much about parrots in this process, and even though we have rough days sometimes (and I have the scars to prove it) I don't regret a thing. I'm glad to find these forums! I should introduce the rest of my house too, :) We have 14 cats (most of them dumped on us) and my parrot (soon to be two). I have done rescue work with cats, dogs, ferrets, and sugar gliders in the past. I still work with my local bengal cat rescue organization. I live in a large house, thankfully, with plenty of room, so we don't all go crazy. I live with my fiance and 3 roommates; ownership of the cats is split between us. It seems to be working out well, though I've only been in the NE area since January. It's cold here! Ok, I think I'm done now. |

Re: Parrot Owned from Mass
Jason, that problem was solved quickly. We set up her huge cage against a wall with nothing around that the cats could climb to get to her from. Her cage sits high, a few feet from the ground, so the cats couldn't really reach her. One of her previous homes had cats. I found out a few weeks later why the cats fear her.
I left the room and was sitting in a room adjacent to the living room where I could not see her. She thought I had left (she only says half her stuff when she thinks no one is home). I heard a very distinct woman's voice calling to the cats. I heard a few of them scramble to the cage (yay hard wood floors). Then she let out what I can only describe as the most blood curdling scream I have ever heard. I swear 6 cats ran from the room and through the kitchen, where I was sitting and reading. Every last one of them had huge fluffed out tails and all their fur was standing on end. Then I heard what topped it all off. Ruby laughing. Honestly, I fear more for the cats then for her. |

Re: Parrot Owned from Mass
I'm sitting chuckling to myself. My bird terrifies my poor dogs so I can only imagine... My bird likes to laugh when she's thinking about biting someone or after you has bitten someone. Its so hard not to encourage it by laughing! Welcome to the forum!
