Newb checking in from Colo
Hello fellow bird folks! Thought I'd drop in for a visit....maybe learn a thing or two from some of you veterans, here. As for me, here's the 411: Recently divorced after 22 yrs, so no more wife to insist "we're not getting a bleepin' bird". Truth is, I've wanted a parrot since childhood, and now I have my lil' buddy, Georgie....a 10 month old Quaker, who I adopted about 6 months ago. Haven't had him/her dna'd, and although I think he's a boy, all my friends and my daughters are sure it's a girl! Oh, well...hence the gender-nuetral name I chose, right?
Anyway, I've been making friends with a 2 yr old, beautiful double-yellow headed amazon named Paco, that I'm thinking of adopting in a couple of weeks when my house sells, and I'll have a little money. Plus, Paco already has a decent vocab, so maybe he'll give Georgie some lessons while I'm at work.....he's been a bit stubborn, for some reason. I look forward to picking your bird brainz! Steve |

Re: Newb checking in from Colo
Ha! Thanks for the welcome, Donna and Jason. Hmmm....so that's what you call it, MBS? I'm also a musician, and in the guitar world we call it GAS, or gear aquisition syndrome....another weakness of mine. ::)
I'm really going to try and keep it to just a couple, maybe 3 birds max. I don't want it to get to the point that it becomes difficult to care for them those few times I may be out of town. As it stands now, when I travel to our mountain home several times a year, I take Georgie with me....he loves it up there at 11,000'. In fact, since I've upgraded his cage, I just leave his other one at the mountain house now and just use a small pet porter to transport him in. If I get another buddy, or two, this scenario becomes more difficult....I guess I would just have to decide whose turn it is to go up to the mountains, and have someone look in on the others for me. Re: Newb checking in from Colo
Hi Steve
I am also in Colorado, and have many years bird experience. If I can be of any help to you and your new bird buddies, please feel free to contact me. Congrats on the new baby. My husband is very understanding of my love for the parrots. He loves the birds too, but not to the extent that I do. He was introduced to the parrot world through me when we first started dating, I was doing bird rescue and had an avairy with over 15 large species parrots to care for. Where in CO are you? I am in the Denver area. Hope to hear from you soon. Jeanne |

Re: Newb checking in from Colo
How ya doing Steve
Nice to have ya on board. Like the mountains? Well, I'm in the mountains of PA and I can't handle this drastic dryness. Probably move to another part of PA that has more humidity. That's what I'm used to. Lots of Quaker owners on this board. I've got 2 adults, male and female. I'm sure we can all share stories, tips and facts about those little devils. Well, hope you enjoy yourself here. Maybe you can post some audio clips of you and your guitar. I prefer disco but I'll listen to anything you play. ---Dave |
