New to the board

Hello everyone. I'm new to board and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Brenda but usually go by Bj or Bren and I live in West Virginia. I am owned by 4 feathered friends. Shadow(TAG) Keno(LSC) Jazzy(F Eclectus) and Leo(M Eclectus). In the last 2 years I have started breeding. I breed Green, Blue, split to blue Quakers, working on the pallid blues, Peachface Lovebirds, Sun Conures and of course the Eclectus. In the past few months I have added Black Mask Lovebirds and Parrotlets. Well I guess thats enough about me. I look forward to meeting everyone and hopefully I can learn alot while I'm here.

Thanks
Bren

You have one heck of a flock!! I breed the TAG's and the Indian Ringnecks hoping to get into the Ekkies soon. We love to see pics of your flock.

Re: New to the board

Thank you Donna. I had a pair of Ringnecks for about 6 months and they never did anything for me so I sold them. I would eventually like to get another pair though. One thing I have learned is you have to patience with the beautiful creatures and when I first started I had none what so ever. I wanted babies and I wanted then now.....lol Boy did they teach me a lesson or 2.

When you decide you want to do the Eclectus my only advice to you is to get them while they are babies and let them grow up together. I promise you it is well worth the wait, but if you are inpatient like me get breeders. I raised Jazzy and Leo as babies with no intentions on breeding them what so ever because I have always read that pets don't make good breeders and vice versa. Well just let me tell you the case with my Eclectus's is totally the opposite. Hubby put up a nestbox just to see what would happen, I guess his intentions and mine were totally different so I left it on there. When Jazzy laid her first egg she just carried on and carried on like she was trying to get my attention as if to say " lookie what I got" so I looked in the nestbox and there was an egg. I couldn't believe it, but she let me touch the egg and never bothered to attack me or anything. Then came the second egg and the same. After about 10 days I candled them and 1 was fertile. When the baby hatched which was on JUly 4th I just had to take a peak here and there as I was truly amazed how she was acting with me. After about a week I picked up the baby for the first time and she just watched me. I left the what turned out to be a little red head wtih her for 3 weeks, of course holding her here and there and then pulled her for handfeeding. I let both parents interact with her whenever I fed her and of course Jazzy still fed her as well. Both parents are still just as tame as can be but now no one else in the household could go around her while she has eggs.

I feel truly blessed to have a pair that trusts me like they do. It was an experience that I will never forget. They are just truly amazing.

Sorry this was so long and I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place or not. I have set up a site so that I can post pics of my fids on and when I do I'll you know so you can see everyone.

Have a great evening.

Bren

Re: New to the board

Bren I hope you plan on coming to the board often because I do want to ask you more about breeding the Ekkies. I also heard that buying babies for breeders are best but like you I am very impatient :-\

Hope to talk more later!
