New from NYC

Hello all-

Finally joined and am looking forward to joining the community. We have a 9month old Black-Capped Conure named Morgan. Have not had him sexed yet.

We are just outside of NYC in Astoria. Morgan came to us through a great store in NYC called Bird Camp where we got to visit with him several times after he hatched until finally coming home with us in January.

Bryan

Hi all,
I'm Karin, and we have a zoo here in Canandaigua, NY. We have our beloved Frankie, a one year old Sunday conure who is spoiled rotten. So spoiled that he walks around the dining room table during dinner, picking what he wants off everyone's plate. Yes, he rules this house. (We call him a he but we really have no idea). We also have Baxter, a toy fox terrier, Archie, a lab mix rescue from the pound, and Deedee, our ball python.
We also have two human children, Matt and Jessica.
I'm thrilled I found this site!

Hi I am Dee, I have 3 sun conures Peedee, Peaches and Rainbow. I cannot tell which is which without looking at their bands, but I believe Peaches just layed 3 eggs since July 21st. she has layed 6 the first time and they did not hatch. Then she layed 3 and 2 hatched successfully, I kept one which is Rainbow and my sister has one. Then the 3rd time she had 4 eggs they all hatched. My neighbor in New York has one, a co-worker of mine has one and the last 2 I kept because their legs were spread apart (I was told that because mom took out the nesting their legs did not stay together). After a year they died, it was really sad. They may have been sick. Well I am hoping that I can successfully raise this clutch, if they hatch but I need some pointers. That is why I am here. I am glad I found this place.

New to the forum. Nice to meet you all.

Hello there,

My name is Evo. I live in South Dakota and am soon to move to Iowa. I have a Yellow Nape Amazon, Jaya. "She" has been with me since she was 9 months old and is now over 16 years old.

I've fostered birds, as well as other pets. I used to work as an Avian & Sm. Animal Vet Tech. It was heart wrenching at times, but also fun and spontaneous and truly thought provoking. It taught me much.

I also have a small dog, Bootsie. She is about 15 yrs. old. As the runt of a litter, I brought her home to try and save her with bottle feedings. I was nursing my son at the time also, so why not put another feeding on the schedule? She was so tiny and seemed so fragile. I lost her in the house on several occasions and would find her in the oddest places. She is part Jack Russell and part Corgie, but honestly she is more the spitting image of a little bitty Border Collie than anything else. She loves to travel and is very intuitive. She's even saved my life on one occasion.

Boots and Jaya understand each other quite well. Bootsie respects Jaya's space and Jaya throws any extra food she doesn't want on the floor for Bootsie. They seem to have things worked out and get along better than most siblings do.

Both of them have watched the children grow up and leave home. Now it is just the three of us. We are soon to move to a new home with a room-mate and this is giving me a bit of stress. I'm wondering how well all is going to balance, but hopefully everyone will fall into step in a short time.

It is nice to be here. With a move coming, you may not see a lot of me for a bit, but I do except emails and will be around. I really enjoy being part of a bird community again. Very special people indeed!

Hi, I'm Shelley. I live in a small town halfway between St Louis Mo and Springfield Il. I'm the new mom of two female Budgies. One blue-Trixie Lee and a green-Tinker Bell. My girls are still trying to acclimate themselves to our family. Good luck! In a household w/ three kids-two girls ages 14, 10/ one boy age 2 1/2, two dogs n a cat, I think it will take awhile. I opened my own used bookstore in June. Trixie and Tinker are supposed to keep me company through the day. I've lots of questions and have been cruising around looking for tips on how to get them interested in foods other than seed, activity other than perching in their tree(I've an artificial tree at the store) and willingly coming to us.... As of now, anything I try to introduce, I get the "she's got to be kidding me" look from both Budgies. I'm looking forward to learning lots of new things!

Pics from Litchfield

This is a picture of my girls. The pic I tried to attach was too large. By the time I got it edited, my "editing timeframe" ran out. Hope this comes through!
