Hi Birds!

"HI BIRDS!!"

That is how my bird, Colonel, greets me when I come in the front door. and then he lets out a loud "WHOOOOOO"...and no matter what kind of day I have had, he turns it all around in the first ten seconds of coming in the front door!!! I never imagined what an impact a bird could have on my life!!!!! I am blessed and he reminds me of it when I need it most!!! What a joy!!!

Hi!
My name is Becky and I am owned by a beautiful, outgoing, gregarious, talkative Military Macaw named "Colonel". I had never owned a bird before nor had I ever even thought about getting one, but the woman who owned him before me had to leave town, needed money badly and needed it quick, and he (the bird) wasn't wanted where she was going, so ,.. I went from a non-birder to a large Macaw!! But, I always say "If you're gonna be a bear, be a grizzly" and in this case, there have been NO regrets or second thoughts!! He has trained me well!!!
I have had him for almost 3 years and would have a houseful of all types of birds if I could! I can't imagine my life without him in it!!! (and its a good thing 'cuz he is going to be in it for the duration). and after I am gone, he will remain in my family, going to my niece who is now 13. By the way, Colonel is 10 years young. He's going to outlast me by far, but he is already in my will! Sounds kinda morbid, but I don't want him to become on of those birds that I read about so often that gets placed in a home where he doesn't fit well and then gets placed in another, and another and another.
I live about 15 miles north of Reno, Nevada in a "township" called Lemmon Valley-close enough to town when necessary and far enough from the city lights to be able to go outside at nite and see the stars so close, they look within arms distance and so quiet at night that you can hear the swans on "Swan Lake"-a designated bird sanctuary, which borders our property!
Today I may possibly (and very hopefully)be bringing an addition into our small animal kingdom! I may be adopting a 2 1/2 yr old Cockatiel named Smokey! His owner no longer has the time for him and I have been thinking about getting another bird for some time, so this may be the one!!
I will be posting a pic of Colonel and also of Smokey if I am fortunate to get him!!
I look forward to being a member of this great website!!
Regards,

Colonel and Becky

Welcome Becky! Colonel certainly sounds like a character and characters are always welcomed here.

Hi & Welcome - so interested in the photos to come. And any stories of bird antics or food fights - you know, anything of interest.

Also ~ Post some photos of your local too - sounds wonderful - it isn't uncommon for members to show off their homes or more commonly their vistas - I've even done that [I live in a high-rise & have a special easterly view of Lake Ontario & the city]
