Hello - New from No. VA!

Hi All - I am new to this site and find all of the activity here wonderful. I am a mom to 3 kids (boys 17 & 15), lil girl 6, have a terrific husband Terry, we also have our own private zoo going on here! We have 3 fids - Peeka - SIE baby, Blu - parakeet guesstimated at 1 yo and Rubber our Bantam Duckie, we have 2 - 4paws - Goldie 8yo Golden Ret. and Dusty 9 mo. Cairn Terrier. My husband is SW fish/Reef nut - he has a setup that encompasses approx. 1000(?) gals. of water - two tanks 150g & 120g - lots of beautiful fishes, invertebrates, corals etc.

Peeka, our SIE came home 12/15/07 and is still adjusting - although it has been extremely slow - he is a terrific FID and is coming around to coming out of his cage all on his own. I am finding Peeka to be extremely independant! Blu our keet - is a birdy all unto herself - altho she does not dare venture out of her safe area of her cage - she will gladly step up - but just don't dare make a move to door of the cage!

I am currently thinking of another birdy - that way Peeka will have someone to "grow-up and grow old with" - now I realize that Peeka is the independant type and will prob. have nothing to do with another feathered friend - I guess the new addition would primarily be for me - I am craving interaction and playfullness! I adore Peeka to pieces - don't get me wrong - I would love to have more hands on time with him playing. After researching species I am thinking that a WB Caique would be perfect for us - now if only I could find one in need of a loving family! If anyone has a WBC in need of a terrific love filled home PLEASE let me know!

Sorry for so much rambling - I know that this was "supposed" to have just been an intro!

sometimes they're just too smart for their own britches

i read ALOT before getting another bird...and i'm so happy i chose a caique.

Thanks guys! Susan - I understand what you mean about reading alot - I have researched and asked soooo many questions - Peeka's breeder has been the most helpful - she knows exactly what I am looking for in another birdy and she pointed me in the direction of Caiques!

I look forward to learning more about you all too!

I don't generally see caiques in need of homes, but Phoenix Landing is in Va. and they have lots of birds in need of homes: Petfinder pet list - Pets at Phoenix Landing, Arlington, Virginia

I got Stewie at the Animal Welfare League of Arlington.

great breeder...and also very knowledgeable...fairly resonable...

i work at a rescue place part time...and have only seen one ever come there...and that was almost 2 years ago. hopefully you'll find something...let us know what happens...but if not give this lady a try...i got my birdie from her...

Thanks - I know that I never see any Caiques in need of re-homing - gee I wonder what that says about the species! LOL - Thanks Green - I have looked at their birds via their web site! There is also DJFeathers.com in Fairfax - they are terrific as well! I do believe that I had better just get used to the idea that I will not find a WB Caique in need of a loving home and that I will have to get a baby! I am thinking that this means they are truly a wonderful pet - since no one ever seems to be in need of a new home!
Thanks for all the info - I have been looking into Phoenix Landing as well - Iwould love to volunteer and help them - but I never seem to be able to coordinate my schedule with their meetings just yet - I will hopefully in March!
