New member to the BirdBoard group

Hi everyone,

I put my pin on the map. Check it out. Funny thing is I don't have a bird yet. I am in the process of trying to get a Senegal, but there are none available in the area. I guess it's to early in the season for weaned babies. I’ve got the home, toys and everything all set up for the lucky bird that gets to live with me. Nice Digs! If I were the bird I'd be thrilled. Anyway I'll keep looking until the right bird comes along. I am thinking of feeding the bird sprouts, I hear it's the best. Yes, I've also heard about mold and fungus that can spoil the food if it's not properly prepared, but from I've read it's not that difficult to do. What says the forum? I’ll keep the group informed of my progress getting the pet of a lifetime, pun intended.

Welcome! No worries....when I joined I didn't have a bird either. I've been doing research since last September about which bird to get. It went from a budgie, to a cockatiel, to a quaker, to a pionus, and then back to a quaker. I put down a deposit on a young quaker last sunday and I'm going to visit him again tomorrow :)

HOWDY from Tennessee! Do your research, post questions. My family has a tiel and we are babysitting Cecil. Due to the informative folks on here, I have requested an Eclectus to be taken home in July. (long trip before that).
So, if you have breed specific questions, this is the place to be.
You are doing the perfect thing by research. Get yourself some reading material and make SURE you want to dedicate yourself to a bird. It's not fair to them to bring them home, then they act natural and it interferes with your life and you give them away.
Example:My hand is not as bruised this am from Cecil yesterday. First time bite. That's my fault, not his, for not reading him right. He's moody, bottom line.
So, spend some time researching. If possible, go to somebodies house that has birds you might like and spend awhile. Ask a local vet if you don't know any personally.
