I Have A Girlfriend For Pita!

Lol... their names even rhyme, her name is Diva!

This is my first post, I'm glad I found you guys!

Diva came to me with about five minutes notice. I'd wanted a parrot FOREVER and had spent lots of time researching the web and talking to experienced people trying to make the best decision as to what would be a good "starter" parrot for me. I've kept budgies before. I had pretty much decided on a conure but hadn't started actually looking for one, I'd planned on waiting until summer break (I work for the school system). So I'm scrolling through Craigslist and watching TV at the same time when a post for a sun conure popped up. Turns out her owner had started to have to go out of town alot to care for her elderly parents and her husband wasn't willing to care for her animals when she was gone so she was rehoming them. I sent her a nice email explaining who I was and what my family was like and she called about five minutes later and said "come and get him now before I change my mind!". Long story short I had my bird.

I did not get much background, the lady said that she had gotten "Henry" from someone off Craigslist about a year ago who had bought "him" as a baby. Never been vetted, came with a big but kind of grody cage with one chewed up toy in it, and a half bag of Hartz birdseed. Yuck. Soooo, off to an avian vet for a full checkup and sexing and then to the toy store for lots of goodies and I have my girl!!!

She wasted no time establishing her rule around here! She is pretty bossy and not shy at all. She has my two German Shepherds under her thrall, preening in their ears, they love her. My husband is absolutely besotted with her. She is out of her cage under supervision when we're home. I've cooked birdy beans and birdy bread for her and she's enjoying lots of fresh foods and quality pellets.

Anyway I'm thrilled to have her and share her with you guys! I'm sure I'll have questions come up and again I'm really glad to be part of this board!

welcome to BB.... your story is really nice to read.... glad to hear that there's another birdie in a loving home.... sounds like you're already a well trained parront.... (don't worry, that fate is the same for all of us )
