Question New Jenday Owner

Hello Everyone,

I'm so glad I found this site. I need your help! We are proud owners of 7 year old "Peanut". Peanut is a Jenday Conure and is very attached to my daughter, but hasn't accepted me or my husband. (He came to our home two weeks ago) We lost our beloved Wrinkles (Maroon Belly Conure) last month. He was 20 years old and was a very "snuggly" bird. I would like to become as close to Peanut as I was with Wrinkles.

Peanut was kept in a cage for long periods of time in his previous home, so he hasn't been socialized very much. My daughter and I continue to interact with him and work with him when we're not at work/school. He snaps at her if I get close to her and has charged me on one occasion. I'm not giving up on him. He's just a sweet bird that was in a bad situation for far too long.

If anyone has any tips I could use to help Peanut (and me) bond, I would sure appreciate it!

Thanks!

I have had a similar situation and what we did was have my husband be the one to give our bird his favorite treat. He would always talk softly to the bird whenever he was around him. It took time but now, even though I'm still his favorite, he will let my husband get him out of the cage and he doesn't try to bite him as much anymore.

Welcome PNB to BB. Try posting in the Conure section maybe an experience conure person would find you there easier. I however can not help since I am still new to the bird world. But I am learning. I did read something from the land of Vos about intense love therapy, I wonder it that would work in you situation? Hope to see you around.
