Introductions!
hi, my names hayley, im 17
i have recently taken on an African grey called Rodney, he is 3 years old. he was left at a Vets practice to be put to sleep as his previuos owners said that they could not cope with his agression. the vets did not want to put him to sleep and so rung me as they knew i take on alot of animals that have these so called "aggression" problems. when he arrived with me he was lying on his back, his feet gripping onto his wings and he was screaming! it took him 2 hours to calm down enough that i could go and have a look at him. first thing that i noticed was that his beak was really really over grown, he was underweight, the brest bone was really prominant and his claws were curled under and sticking back into his feet. i think id be aggressive too! after a week of settling into the new home and getting used to me i took him to se a specialist Vet,2 hours drive away from where i live! they told me that his feet are deformed, probably due to an inccorect diet and his left wing keeps dislocating. his beak was trimmed and his claws were trimmed, but he still manages to fall off perches as his feet are stil sore. he is not agressive in the slightest! first night that i had him back at home with me after the Vets he fell asleep with me :) he is now eating fine and gradualy putting the weight back on, he was only 356grams when i first took him the vets, no hes a more repectable 400 grams and he loves my mum! so shes happy too atleast now Rodney has a permanent home, still cant see how he is agressive, iv havent had a problem with him, he lets me check his beak and feet without a fuss :) Hayley |

i think hes a great parrot, love having him around and hes always making us laugh with what he says because he has 3 distinct voices, 2 that we dont know who they are and mine and he shouts me and my mum when we arent there.
really glad that i took him on when i had the chance, i have always wanted an african grey and i couldnt wish for a better one, as deformed as he is :) makeshim special though |

i'm impressed with the maturity and kindness you have shown to this grey and you are only 17 yrs. old...what a caring tender heart you must have. i wish you the very best with your new fid! in a world where alot of teenagers are more concerned about the color of their ipod they get, it's so refreshing to hear from one who puts others needs first.
