Hello From Scottsdale, AZ!

We are the proud new parents of Lila, DSC_1867.jpg our 9-month old Lilac Crowned Amazon. (I know... where did we ever get that name...) But it just stuck.

She is settling in quite well and has been accepted by our three Dobes, and one cat.

She gets many hours out of cage each day and loves to ride on our shoulders. The weather is nice enough to have her outside with us during the daytime!

Some videos of her are available at 3 Dobes Blog

Hello and welcome to the forum.. She is beautiful! Don't you have her harnessed when she is outside? I would be afraid of loosing her.

Hi, Neighbor!

Hello, neigbor! Congrats on your amazon! I have had my yellow-naped amazon for more than 20yrs. If you are looking for a vet, go to Dr. Todd Driggers. He's the vet for the Oasis Bird Sanctuary and is soon to be boarded in Avian medicine (takes 6 years). Also, make sure she's on a pellet diet as amazons are prone to Vit A deficiency. She looks healthy and inquisitive!

Liz

Thanks for the welcomes and good advice!
So far she is quite happy to snuggle on my shoulder when we are outside. She is clipped, so the best she can do so far is a controlled fall.
I do worry about keeping up with the clip so that she doesn't suddenly have flying ability!

Welcome! She is beautiful, i love the lilac crowned zons, they look like they have been drawn they are so perfect. The colours on them are just gorgeous! Think Maxlovesboating got a lilac not long ago too called gilligan.

Also even clipped birds can fly off sometimes if they get a fright. Anyway she is beautiful and don't worry, we had a lutino tiel my brother wanted to name "yellow bird"...didnt happen but name originality doesnt matter...easier to remember that way lol.

Hello and Welcome, Our Gilligan is about the same age as your Lila, he is quite a character. He talks in different voices, thinking he has split personalities? LOL.

Thank you. I agree, she's a beauty!

She did get startled on her cage, and she flew up on top of my head, which made me scratch up there and wonder, "how did she do that?" Given enough of a scare and effort, she can still fly, just not that well. Correct?

Lila's new 360 trick

Lila started to swing down and grab her food upside down yesterday, and she was having so much fun she did it about 10 times in a row - enough time to allow me to get my phone to take a (low-quality video) of her doing it. It's the first one down on my blog: 3 Dobes Blog .
