New to board...

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to introduce myself. I heard about this board from Skip at Everybody's Birdmart on March 18. I had a great time at the birdmart and purchased several lovebirds and cockatiels.

I currently have an outdoor aviary on my patio. I can't wait to get the birds out there full time so I can enjoy them and they can have fun and lots of room to move around. (don't worry, I'm not letting the lovebirds and cockatiels be out at the same time ;)).

I am also breeding cockatiels for the first time and have two that are nesting - no eggs yet, but I believe that could change this week, HOPEFULLY!!

Anyway, hi to all and I look forward to reading things on the board. Hi to Skip - I will post pictures of my aviary soon

Hi everyone. Thank you for the warm welcome. I just wanted to responde to some of the posts that I got....

I am just starting out in breeding birds. I have an aviary that my family built on our patio. We wanted to purchase one, but they are very expensive and to fit our needs would have to have been custom fit and would have been even more expensive, so Home Depot was where we went and to Lowes. Had a great time designing and building. It is now pretty much finished except for putting in plants and decorating. My birds seem to like it. They get sun in the morning and are provided good shade in the afternoon. We live in Bakersfield so it does get hot here. We are working on installing a misting system to cool the birds down when it gets really hot.

Currently we have 8 cockatiels - Boaz, Jack, Sheila, Jake, Baby, Ruth, and two we are still trying to think up names for. We also have 10 love birds - Sweetie, Sergio, Trouble, Blueberry, Fido, and Speedy - still have to get some names for the others. We also have 3 parakeets - Chica - who turned out to be male, Tackle, and Joey.

I love birds of the small variety. I would love to have a macaw some day or cockato, but am afraid that my neighbors wouldn't like the noise - the lovebirds are pretty vocal as it is...

I will post pictures of my birds and aviary, just haven't had time to figure out how to do it yet, but I will this week. I do have some pics up on "myspace". my myspace is http://www.myspace.com/indymom.

Anyway, I guess thats it for now. Thanks to everyone for being so nice! I've been checking out the links here from people and have found some really good sites and good information.

Hi! We actually built the aviary. It was a lot of fun to make. I haven't got much in the way of decorating for the birds. I am looking into pearches and some plants they can chew on. Also a birdbath.
