Exclamation Please help!

HI,
I am new to this board and have come here to get help. I work at PetsMart in the pet care department and we recently acquired birds that had both females and males in the and they are breeding! This normally would be ok but the store manager said he is going to through away the fertilized eggs! (I candled them) I just can't stand to see that happen so I bought an incubator. I have experience with birds and own my bird named Lacey. BUT, I have never hand raised a bird. I was given these eggs and want what is best for them. Please help!

email me at stacyamelio@gmail.com

Thanks

Yes, more info. please. tiny birds, like finches, are harder to feed from day 1, cause they are so very tiny, but its posible. there are some videos of hand feeding lovebirds at Breeding Lovebirds Part II Handfeeding Weaning and Socializing.

you can go to the forum for the spacific species and ask there, for proper incubation temps. and formula temps.

its not hard if you just do it, and are not nervous. stay calm. i hand fed some zebras, and love birds but i started at 14 days old.

do you have plans of keeping these chicks, or do you have some one that wants them?

I just want what is best for the chicks. Currently there are 2 Budgie eggs and one dove egg. I am sorry to say but no one listened to me at work and I am sure the mother is experiencing egg binding. I am trying to get her to the vet. I have never hand fed but I am dedicated to getting these babies weaned. I have already done a lot of research and the eggs have a while to hatch. They are in a high quality egg incubator right now and are being turned 3 times a day. One is just old enough to be candled and it seems fertile. Any advice would be great!

Why do you think she is eggbound? Removing the eggs is the worst thing you can do. Let the parents sit on them; otherwise, the female will keep laying eggs.

I understand that removing the egg is the worst thing to do and have told that to PetsMart. But there policy is throwing away the eggs and so instead of him throwing it away were it definitely would have died, I took it home and see that the eggs are fertile. I am sure she is egg bound because she is breathing heavy at the bottom of the cage, has plucked her feathers around her vent, and has been trying to pass an egg that I can feel inside of her. The vet can't see her tomorrow, so she might die tonight. I have used vegetable oil around her vent which seemed to calm her down and have given her a nice warm place in a quiet room without the rest of the birds stomping her. She has a cuttle bone, but I was trying to find some calcium drops to help her contract her muscles (it won't help for her egg at this point)

I had also told them to replace the missing egg with a white marble and hopefully trick her until she abandons the marble

Angry Egg-Bound Bird

Someone should Educate the Owner....she will keep egg-laying,and if she is Egg Bound, she needs a Proper Diet with Calcium included.I hate Pet Stores

Send a message via Yahoo to birdsnreps
the petsmart near us lets the birds sit on their eggs and raise their own babies....so its not ALL petsmarts. this petsmart also has several actual bird people that own various large parrots and do well with them.
