Maxi and I

Hi everyone, I was introduced to this board through the MySpace bird board page. I am the proud owner of a 6 year old (in July) female Maximillian Pionus whose name is Maxi. I adopted her almost 3 and a half years ago, and she is very spoiled.

She'll do about anything for a piece of apple or steamed broccoli.

We live in Newport Beach, CA. Where Maxi has her mansion (aka cage) in front of a bay window on the second floor. To her right she can see out the slider to the Newport Harbor and to her left through the glass front door she can see the Pacific Ocean (S-P-O-I-L-E-D).

Hi - Happy to meet you.
It is really nice to meet people who spoil their birds.
Your photos show she's pretty happy. Outside of her lovely living arrangements - do you take her outside at all? - will she tolerate a harness? - have you trained her to come, etc?

Is this the first bird you've had? Has she been everything you expected or were you in for all sorts of surprises along the way?

do you take her outside at all?

Yes, she has a travel cage that I use on our balcony during the Spring, Summer and Fall. And I do take her on my shoulder downstairs when visiting with the neighbors.

Will she tolerate a harness?

I don't know, I have never tried a harness. She is pretty good about riding on my shoulder.

Have you trained her to come, etc?

Oh yea, she has a ladder and will climb out of her cage in the morning and make her way onto her large play gym in my bedroom and get a bite to eat until I wake up. Rarely will she wake me up, in fact she moves slowly so she doesn't make noise... it is cute.

Is this the first bird you've had?

Yes it is, I had only had dogs previously.

Has she been everything you expected or were you in for all sorts of surprises along the way?

Oh yea, she is always getting into mischief. Luckily none of it is dangerous. Late last summer we had about two weeks where it was hotter than normal (and we don't have A/C) and she got dehydrated. So that was interesting, luckily I knew something was wrong.

Welcome to BB! I grew up in Laguna Beach & had lots of friends in CdM and Newport. Think we may be in for another corker this summer; I broke down and bought AC this winter. Look forward to hearing more about Maxi's adventures.
