New member from Canada, but with sad news about sun conure

Hey everyone. I'm from Winnipeg MB Canada.

Sad to say that I only came across this forum because my wife's sun conure was dying only after having her for five years. On Sunday January 27th, I went to pick up Sunny-D as I always have first thing in the morning. She got on my finger with the usual strong grip, but her eyes kept closing. I knew something wasn't right. I called for Linda, my wife, and she looked at her and agreed with me. This bird is sick. Sunny-D was Linda's bird. Extremely attached to her. So I called any vet I could, but there was no Avian vet to be found on this particular Sunday. Could not find anyone to look at it. One vet called back and would keep it in an incubator, but we knew it was dying and didn't want it to be alone. So we just went home and Linda kept it it on her chest until around 11:30 AM it made one last flutter and died. Talk about someone's heart being ripped out.
Linda was devastated. She wrapped her up in her favorite sweater and put her in a sealed box and wanted to bury it, but eventually was convinced to have an autopsy performed on it.
We have another sun Conure named Chico. We took him to the vet the next day to make sure he was healthy and everything checked out fine.
Weeks later we got the results back...inconclusive. They knew what didn't cause Sunny to die, (wasn't egg bound, no crushed or broken bones), but had no idea what caused it to die.
One of the hardest things was that Sunny was so attached to Linda, but Chico was attached to me. I do a lot of work with youth which I had to put on hold for a few weeks because of the lonliness Linda felt. We do not have kids and Chico wouldn't go to Linda.
Some history that maybe someone might know why it died.
*Got Sunny from a pet store 5 years ago. Was about a year old.
*Was never in a cage. Had a critter aquarium and lots of plastic hangers to climb.
*Love to be in the chest under a dark shirt
*Wings and nails were always kept cut
*Constantly had healthy check-ups
*Night before it died, both Chico and Sunny had the exact same food and both were very playful and both looked normal

So that's it. And because we take home other people's neglegted animals, we now have Ember who someone just left in a cage. She is now slowly getting her feathers back and hasn'ty been pulling them out. Below was Sunny-D and Chico (sorry about the out of focus) and to the right is Ember, Butler, Roxy, and Nicky.

Thanks for listening. This wasn't easy. To see Sunny's memorial go to http://brianmckay.net/indexfull.htm.
