Wink Hi From NZ

Hi Guys!

My name is Heather and I am from NZ (well, the UK originally but I've been living here for the past 11 years). I've been keeping and breeding birds for quite a few years now but I've also got a lot of other animals that take up my time, cost me money and make me laugh every day! I also have a hubby (Bri) who builds me aviaries and animal shelters when he should be programming computers and four grown up kids, only two still at home though.

I started off with finches and they are my first love. I now have more zebra finches than I can count spread about aviaries and cages, inside and out. I try to specialize in a couple of mutations (black face and pieds) and managed to find a whole new feather mutation this year. I also have societies/bengalese, javas, cubans, fires, red-faced parrot finches, orange breasts, gouldians and cordon bleus plus canaries and quail. My hookbills range from budgies through bourkes and turqs, red rumps, fischer lovebirds, tiels, rainbow lories and a lone crimson wing who is looking for love... I have hand-reared most of the species I own at one time or another. I have two beautiful hr'd zebra girls plus a java left over from a brood I had to rescue and I keep losing the plot and hanging onto hookbill babies that I can't bear to part with after rearing them... Ooh, and did I mention the ducks???

I'm very happy to meet you all - apart from Mon who introduced me and I'm always happy to meet her! I'm looking forward to chatting with you.

All the best,

Heather

Welcome to BB! Sounds like a wonderful flock -- it will be great to see shots of some of the little guys & hear of your experiences.

Thanks for the welcome guys! I love photos too and I will try and add one. Monica already knows what a total technoclutz I am so it may take a while!

tuicroc_2.JPG

Well, I got it in but it doesn't look very professional! If anyone can point me in the direction of instructions I would be very grateful... That is Tui, the first rainbow we ever hand-reared, bathing with a crocodile!

This is quite different to any forums I have ever been on before so you'll have to bear with me while I find my way. I'm going to need to make myself a siggy too! HELP!!!

All the best,

Heather

Thanks Mon! As you can see, I managed to get an avatar up and running. That is Guinea Pig and Ambrose, my tame zebra finches, btw. Still haven't done anything about a siggy but I will.

Yes Homebird, all the birds swim with crocs here in NZ! Tui is a nutcase but I seem to have a few of them for some reason. That was actually one of a series of pics that were done for a comp on another forum. Let's see if I can find you another nice pic...

budgiethreeplus.JPG Here are three of my budgies; Raine and Skye plus Charlie Chaplin and his plastic friend...

All the best,

Heather

Tara you're evil!
Hey we got a big +28C [82F]today but the breeze is still cool - but Monday wasn't higher than 13 [55].... our Springs are kind of jumpy.

Love the Budgies - similar Budgie gym to ours! Basic 101 gym style - but they love it.
