Talking Hello, everyone!

I was referred here by Sowilu due to an issue with my poor budgie. However, on a lighter note, I'm also here because I adore birds, and I have all my life. To me, they're like friends, like family and like my own children instead of just pets. They're my very special companions, and I regard them in very high standards and with lots of respect. I've been hand feeding babies and incubating eggs for something like 7 years, but I've loved birds since the time I could walk and talk. Actually, right now I have 2 embden goose eggs and 3 pekin duck eggs in my incubator at 19 days, and one of the geese is going to be a house goose!! I know, I'm insane, but that's okay. I've been fascinated with bird behavior and intelligence for as long as I can remember...And I always try to bring up bird rights and intelligence in every debate I can. I'm 20 years old and living with some friends at the moment - both human and avian, that is - in a nice big house everyone (including parents and about 10 other friends) helped chip in for, with plenty of room for birds and other animals. I'm living in Regina, Sask, also if you wanted to know, and you can call me Kep..it's sort of my nickname.

Well anyway, it's good to be here.

Welcome to the board. when I was little my friend had a pet duck that they found and fed when it was a tiny baby. They assumed it would fly away but never did. It went in and out of the house and followed the kids everywhere .It was really cute and fun.I loved it.

Welcome and beautiful pictures. Thank you for sharing.
Was it you that had a budgie with a fluid build up?

Yes, it was me that has the budgie will her abdomen filling up with fluid. We're desperately trying to find a way to help her, and we've scheduled another appointment with the vet this week to talk about more possibilities. The funny thing about it is that it forms in cyst-like "bubbles" right above the vent. Also, her vent apparently gets swollen when it builds up. It comes and goes. When it's gone, she's the happiest as can be and hanging from the top of her cage and playing with her toys. When it's there in full blast, she fluffs up and has trouble breathing, but she always eats. She's very loved and we all hope we'll be able to help her...

The pictures there are of baby pigeons. At its smallest and its brightest coloring, it is just less than a half hour old. Their eyes open in about 3-5 days, but they are amazing and sometimes peek out at the world as soon as they hatch, as these two sometimes did. I hand raised these babies from their eggs. Ducklings are precocial, unlike parrots and pigeons, and come out with their eyes wide open, ready to eat what their parents eat and run around. Parrots are even less helpless than pigeons when they're born. Very altricial.

One day I plan to find a breeder around me that is willing to work with me to hand feed a baby parrot, probably a large one of some sort like a macaw, amazon, grey or cockatoo. I've hand raised the little ones, but no big ones, and no breeders I know will even consider the hand raising thing. I am confident I could do it...I am probably the most loving and dedicated foster parent there is for baby fids, but you know, it's definitely best they don't sell unweaned birds. I only want to hand raise a parrot because I enjoy the experience so much and I love to watch my babies grow, even from the egg. To me, there is nothing I'd rather do than stay up late into the night watching over a newborn bird or mixing up formula every 2 hrs on the dot. Every summer, I hardly leave the house due to this.
