Hi Katia,
I am in south central Pa. I am owned by the fids in my siggy. Great going for wanting to rescue instead of buying. There are always lots of fids needing a home out there!!! 2 of whom are rehomes. Buddy the Nanday, 6 yrs old, was given to me from a lady whom did not want to care for him any longer. It took him about 3 days to stop biting, a week till he was bonded with me. He totally dislikes everyone else. He will fly and attack if given the chance. I have his wings clipped. All my boys' wings are clipped. Sydney the G2, 14 yrs old, was given to me cause the man just did not want him anymore. He went thru a screaming mode for about 4 months. But he is bonded with both my partner and myself. And has stopped screaming. Anyhoo.... welcome!!! Win |

Welcome. I lived in Oakmont, Pa. until I was four years old and my mom grew up there. I always heard stories of my grandmother and her friend shopping in Monroevillle! I've been bookmarking a whole library of valuable information from BB since early this year . You've come to the right place.

New here too!
Hi all!
My name is Kathey. I have an African Grey and a B&G Macaw. Foxy the Grey is 3 and Harley the Macaw is 1. We live in Sarasota, Florida. I have owned 2 greys and both have been 'touch-me-not' types. They were cuddly at first and Fox still allows me to scratch her head or massage her feet occasionally. But a snuggler she is not! It really doesn't matter to me because she is so beautiful and tells me that she loves me and asks for kisses and then says 'whew, what a sweet kiss'. In the morning before the cover comes off of her cage I hear the sweetest voice say a very musical "good morning". My birds are the loves of my life. Good luck finding the right grey for you. I have had experience with both fids in the past. The gray can enjoy cuddling in the biginning but this can change. As they grow older, some decide who they want to bond with, and it may not be you. They are awesome with mimicing, and can be lots of fun to watch and listen to. Moluccans (if they don't imtimidate you), are very cuddly, and are better at being sociable with everyone. They do need a lot of attention though. When I was unable to spend 3 hours a day with mine-he compromised by sleeping on my pillow, but I assume not all are this generous, and could develope problems. I recommend you make a list of your best preferences, and see which birds needs you are able to accomodate. You may find it is something totally different....which is how I have Bobbie. Ü

Thanks so the help everyone!
Yeah- Greys stuck me as intelligent but dignified individuals that really don't want to get by their "pet" and cuddle. Maybe they do wear off though, and every bird is different, just like we humans are, so you never know... Hopefully I'll find a sweet Grey/M2 at a rescue center nearby in the next couple of months. Volunteering and getting to know the different types will really help, but the closest rescue is 50 minutes away- one way- , but there is a possibility maybe...See you in the forum! Katia |
