HI! Mandee!
I'm from GA too. 'Bout an hour and a half from Augusta. Very rural area close to Swainsboro. I'm in Augusta every month for a meeting. I get so excited when I see someone else from GA. What bird(s) do you have? Hope to talk more with you soon. Welcome to the board, I think this is a really nice place and you can learn so much here. :icon_bigg

Hi Kim,
I have a Timneh (Baby is his name), 2 Blue Crown Conures (Honey & Paulie), and right at the moment I am weaning 2 Sun Conures. One is sold (poppaguy) and the other waiting on new parents. I love raising babies!! Do not really have the room to be a breeder. Hubby is in the Air Force and stationed at Fort Gordon until Summer 2006. I am going to try breeding my Blue Crowns and see what happens. Actually I do have my eye on a pair of Lady Gouldian's too. (But really not sure) My X mother in law is a close friend and has gotten into breeding, and has alot of different pairs. So when she starts getting babies I will wean them for her. She is in Gaffney, SC. I have made alot of breeder friends and will buy unweaned birds and raise them for people wanting them. Alittle extra money helps. So what types of birds do you have? It is really nice to meet new people because I really don't know very many from this area. Only been here 9 mths. I am from Spartanburg, SC. I looking forward to talking further!

Amanda

Mandee,
Well, lets see. As posted, on my signature, I have Angel(CAG),and Gabriel and Phoebee(b/g macaws). We also have 4 cockatiels that we thought would be breeders. LOL All they do is look at one another and look pretty. 2 lutino's and 2 common greys.(Rebecca and Isaac, Jacob and Rachel) Rachel turned out to be Rascal. Oops, so we were unsuccessful with any breeding. I don't care really. We have Zebra finches and Societies. They are being a little too successful with breeding.( Where I work we have a finch aviary with Societies and a pair of Lady Gouldians, the gouldians are not very good parents, very nervous, but throw a few societies in with them and the societies will raise the gouldian babies) We also have 2 budgies that are supposed to be my daughter's(Lilo and Stitch). I thought they might get together for babies, but every nest I put in, they demolish. That's ok too.
Hubby is interested in learning to hand feed and weaning babies like you do. He is just beginning to learn all there is to know. We won't be getting a baby for him until he feels confident that he can do it. Hey, I might be worrying you with questions before long. LOL

Kim, Please feel free to ask away. Like I said I do not know very many people and do not know anyone that is interested in learning how to wean baby birds. I will share all I know. I have weaned TAG, CAG, Cockatiels, Conures, and a couple of ohters. Most people say that Cockatiels are the worst. I learned to wean on a Cockatiel so not a worry to me. (But each bird is different) I have found that Cockatiels are more easy to asperate on you than others. I have never lost one but, I know people who have.
You can research alot and learn, but actually doing it is the best teacher. I am in the middle of weaning two Sun Conures and they are on two and three feedings aday. Anytime you are more than welcome to come with hubby and visit. I usually only buy babies when I know someone is looking for them. I weaned 3 Cockatiels for Christmas presents for two friends who wanted there kids to have them. Hands on experience is the best, you always run into something. It is also great to have a teacher or someone to help when needed. I get such enjoyment out of the babies and knowing the are going to a good home and I had a part in it. They are all little stinkers.. Well, I may be looking for some Societies finches. I am still thinking on the Gouldian's. I am interested in hearing more about your B&G's. How are there personalities, good with other family members, Do they walk around the house...etc? (things to that nature) Reba has Scarlet's, B&G's, Greenwings. I was thinking on getting a baby to keep but wondering about them. Any help would be great. Let me know about all I have said. It is nice to talk to adults instead of my 4 & 9 year old kids all the time. Hope you have a wonderful day!!
Amanda
