Parakeet means any small parrot with a long tapering tail. This includes anything from budgies to conures, quakers, ringnecks, grass keets, etc. It however does not include poicephalus or pionus.

Matt, yes you are correct that a ringneck is a pheasent.... but it's also a parrot, too!

So for example, here's a ringneck pheasant

And here's a ringneck parrot/parakeet...

And here's some other species that are in the ringneck parrot family!

I agree though, the Gyrfalcons are gorgeous!!! Gotta be one of my favorites, if not THE favorite in falcons! Just gorgeous!!!!

How's the little Gyr settling in?

Gyr is doing well! he sits on my finger when i put it to his lower body, and say up. hes realized that, oh hey, i can go back to my cage if i want to, and will go back. but i had him sitting on my hand preening while i played some Battlefield 2 with my buddy. Hes getting a bit more vocal, and a bit more active since ive had him. but not much. im really hoping he turns super vocal hehe.

He shall when he settles in more! A budgie was my first bird, and I still have 5 now! First got into birds when I was 12 (when I got my first budgie White Waters). Been nearly 7 years now and it just doesn't feel like it!
