My Baby Amazon Flew away Sunday

Hi All,
I need to tell all how important it is to clip the wings of our Birds.........
This is my story>>>>>>>>>>
Sunday Afternoon, I came home from spending a day of riding Motorcycles all Day. I feed my 3 parrots and left my 11 month old blue front amazon on the play stand while I went outside to collect veggies from the garden. My Hubby came out to watch and left the sliding door to my family room opened 15". We heard the wings flapping and within seconds my Baby Amazon had flow from the dining room, to the kitchen and through the family room out the door. We both were in shock.
Margarita had never flown before, but I knew her flight feathers were growing out. So I spent the next 4 hours calling and crying for my Baby.
The next day at dawn I was out looking for her. Two hours of calling and listening I found her high up in a pine tree on my property. Hours of calling and bringing out her cage, tree and play stand, I was ready to get her down.
I located a local company with a Cherry Picker and took the ride up 75' to claim her. She only dropped to lower branches with my attempt to have her step up. The next attack had me using a net, which she flew away to a far away tree forest in my neighbors field.
I live in Maryland, and we have many birds of prey living very near our house. I again went looking for my little Amazon. Being Green, she was almost impossible to find. I just kept calling her name and listened for her call. I did find her but my exciting calls, just caused her to fly right over my head and perch in the deeper woods. Crying and defeated, I returned home. I needed to get up early the next day.
At dawn I didn't see her. The Red Tail Hawks were hunting so the forrest was quiet. I returned home. Grabbed a bowl of peanuts and a plastic container and headed of to the woods.
I used all the words that my Amazon spoke, sang the crazy songs I sing to my flock and repeated Pee-A-Boo a million times, till I heard her call. I listened and followed her call. Over a mile later, I found her about 100 feet up in a Willow tree.
She was a little happy to see me. I knew I had to be the most excited thing she ever saw to get her attention. I danced under the tree and shook my metal bowl pouring the nuts from the plastic container one at a time. So she would hear the cling.
Three hours later, her hunger got the best of her. She came down to take a big peanut fromthe bowl........ and I grabbed her by her neck. She bite me deep through my thumb but I tucked her into the long sleeve demin shirt that I had been wearing since day one.
Luckly for me my husband had been looking for me and was near by with my truck to whisk her home. Her eyes showed signs of stress. So I feed her grapes, water, and seed. I put her to ber for 3 hours and then fed her again.
Today she is back to herself..........except she is minus flight feathers.

Your story totally touched me. I can't imagine the emotional turmoil that you were probably going through while your Amazon was away. Thank goodness she was okay, and you were able to get her back!

I live in a Suburb of Metro Detroit .
on the day this year of my doughters graduation . The night before I went to bed late and the temp had dropped so I turned off the AC and opened windows well our new windows only have half screens and if you open up the windows wrong there will be no screen .

We have all but out finchies up stairs in our large bedroom.
We were woke up by our birds all but the canarys where on our bed just screaming , actually thats not to un ussual but Silvester had taken a huge bite out of my calf is what actually woke me up .

With the rucus they where all making I knew something wasn't right . I got up turned the coner and seen the screen was down I looked to the flight cage and 2 canaries were missing Tweety , and Rocky a green Fancy .

Well we search the block talked to nieghbors . But having to get ready and leave didn't help .
So I put on some of tweety's great his song on my puter set it to reply and left .

When we got back we searched a little but we had a part to get ready for .
by 6pm thing slow down we all went inside to watch a movie .

My wife was heart broken .
Tweety you see our yellow canary was her X mas gift that she has been begging me for years to get .

And now the first bird we ever had is gone ...

Well she desided to give it one more try , she wasn't out the door 30 seconds when she came runnning in saying she saw him ....

for the next 2 hours we chased cujlled and even had a neighbor who ripped his up stairs screen out ( his kids couldn't figure out how to open it it )
Because tweety kept try to get in .

Filnal I thought hey these birds don't fly much and can't have a very good
endurence , so using the concept of just keeping him flying no mater what finale did work .
The little fella ran out of breath and just couldn't fly any more and I captured him on the step of a house 3 blooks away using a shirt ....
Rocky was never found.

Little follow up , 2 days later I did the same thing right by the finch cage and on went Tommy we see him from time to time , we replaced him not wanting to leave freddy alone .
As of today Freddy has 3 new babies and 2 eggs that have yet to hatch .
I'd post pic's but they are so small I don't want to bother things that much with them to get a good pic...

And tweeey well if you seen my welcome thread his just fine ........
