hi a short intro

Hello, all.

I feel embarrassed making an intro thread because I don't have a parrot so I don't have much to say. I'm here to do research before I choose which species of parrot to buy. I'm looking forward to learning from you all. thanks.

Kerry

Welcome and thank you for doing the research BEFORE acquiring a pet. Examine your lifestyle, and try to choose then. I guess you are looking for a bird. What size home do you have, apartment, home etc. Do you have neighbors? What kind/amount of time will you spend EVERYDAY with this bird. Do you know how much money/budget cages/toys/vet visits/food... you will need? I dont mean to scare you, but get ready. There are lots of people out they that have not thought this thru. Have you checked in to adopting/buying?
I have 3 parrotlets (hubs just gave me the third one yesterday for Mothers Day), and I love them dearly, they are pint size loads of fun. (dont tell them they are pint size) In the near future, we plan to acquire a larger bird (Amazon or Grey) There are many threads here (and this is a great forum) on the pros and cons of several kinds of birds, and as all the forums I am on, the people here are great sources of information. As a parrotlet owner, they get my vote!! they are not that loud, they can talk, and enteract with you. Good luck!

Thank you very much.

I live in an apartment so I know my choices are limited. I have looked into parrotlets but it is my understanding that they are difficult to keep tame. Not as hard as lovebirds but still difficult, and quite aggressive?

Right now I am considering a poicephalus species like Senegal. I am also considering a Linoleated parakeet (but I know very little about them). I am also considering a TAG or CAG. I fostered a CAG and so I know the noise level is manageable. However I also know the dust level, and it's a problem for me so that probably won't happen.

I have heard good things about Pionus species, but have never seen one in real life. I know they give off a smell. I need to smell it before I commit because, I know some people love it and others hate it.

Thank you for the welcome. I do want to assure you all that I'm in no rush! I should have put all this info in my first post. But I guess I was nervous and forgot, sorry!

YAY ANOTHER REASEARCH ONE!! I found this board while researching about my alexandrine i was buying, it's so good here. I'm sure you'll find the perfect parrot soon. Birdsnreps breeds linolated parrots so she might be good to ask, she breeds senegals too. Welcome to the forum.

I've seen lots of comments about smelly birds around here. As a bird, I take exception to this - most humans smell *way worse* than most birds!
