Question Help with Canaries

Hello, I have a male and a female canary. They have built a nest, some time ago now. They get along, the female doesn't seem to have any physical problems, but she is not laying any eggs. Has anyone experienced this before?
Thank you, Carol

how old are they? Have you seen them breed, usually summer is the end of breeding season, how long have they been together? Are you sure you have male and female? I bought male and female, and ended up with 2 females?(and they built a nest) and by the way WELCOME !!

Smile Help with Canaries

Thank you for responding. I know I have male and female. I bought the female last year and she laid eggs, in fact quite a few, for what seemed like a long period of time. Since I had just purchased her, I wanted to wait until next spring to put them together. I've had my male about 3 years. I put them together in February. At first she built the nest and kept taking it apart, for quite some time, then she finally completed it, this was some time ago now. They get along, he feeds her, she sits on the nest a lot. She seems to be fine physically, so I don't think she is egg bound. She acts normal in every other way. I don't see anything on the bottom of the cage that would indicate an egg without a shell. I feed them nestling, or conditioning food, egg biscuit, vitamin enriched seeds. fruit and veggies. It's weird, everything seems right, but she is not laying. Thank you for any help you can render.

Thanks, Carol

Hmm, she could be sterile. They can stiil be hormonal and be sterile. Keep letting her try and wait and see - Is she a mutation? Do you know the breeder? sometimes indesciminate breeding between siblings can be cause for sterility.

You may have to "fake" spring, turn lights out sooner, more darkness. OR you may have to wait till real spring.
