Smile Hi From Australia

Hi my name is Melissa I'm from australia Victoria.
I have an Indian Ringneck not sure what sex, but I call him boy.
His name is Gypsy.Silly me got him from a pet shop, I have been told lately never buy from a pet shop only a breeder. But anyway he is 9 months old now got him when he was 3 months was supposed to be hand raised, I don't think he was.
He has a strong bond with me I am trying to get him not to bite me, he will let me pat him sometimes and flattens his back when I pat him and coos.
He does the woof whistle and I let him out of his cage everyday.
Every bit of information I get about biting is they say ignore it.
How can you ignore it when he is trying to take a chunk out of your hand or finger? Pretty hard to do.
Oh and also he hates everyone else in the family, if they go near his cage to talk to him he screams at them I am the only one he will let pat him.
Can someone help thanks.....

Talking Hi

Hi Yes I would be upset if I had a beak the size of Alexandrine I know I spelt it wrong.
Sometimes he is fine then all of a sudden he'll bite.
I find it hard not to react. But I know he would love that.
I do blow on his face when he bites me he actually goes crook at me
like a growl. Funny when he does it but not funny when he gets a chunk.

Have a good day or night everyone..

Welcome to BB u will love it here. I am owned by IRN's...Scarley who is 6 yrs old this year and Ringo who is about a year old now. I've had Scarley for 4 years and Ringo since late March I think. They are a bit nippy sometimes, took me 2 years to tame Scarley and Ringo still hasn't bonded with, but with my roommate he has.

Melbourne too :)

Ahh Ringnecks...
About the biting, do not and don't try to ignore it...
push back into his beak so he has to release or he loses balance.. :)
Pulling away turns it into tug of war and a game! They learn to control you and you don't want that ><
And sounds like it has only bonded with you, that can't be good and can turn defensive against you if others try to approach you..try let other family members feed it re fill its seed..talk it.

I have an Alexandrine, and I loveeee him sure he bites but I've found the technique above is effective so far, we'll see in a few weeks whether he stops altogether.
He's still baby 13 weeks, so he hasn't gone through adolescence.

Oh that reminds me some Ringnecks just go ferrel after 4 years or 1...
Be persistent :)

Having showers with it is another way you can bond too, I find with mine he just sits on my hand and rests against my chest and just lets me pat him and he like purrs ><

And welcome :)
