Greeetings from S.F. Bay Area
Hi,
I'm new to the forum. A little over 2 months ago my spouse and I brought a darling little Meyers Parrot named Murray into our life. He was hatched on Christmas day 2007. After weaning he only spent a brief time in his first home before he was given up for adoption to a lovely young women who does rescues in our area. I was fortunate enough to get Murray from her. (Personally I found it difficult to justify buying a bird on the market when there seem to be so many in our area in need of rehoming.)
Murray is DNA sexed male but is a bit smaller than some other Meyers I have seen. Also his chest is more of a blue turquoise. I know we may see more yellow in him as he matures, but currently he is showing only a hint of yellow peppered epaulets and nothing on his head.
He is the most charming and loving character. He kisses, cuddles and accepts being touched eagerly. Meyers are known more as mimics than prolific talkers. At least so far this seems true for our Murray. He imitates the Crows on my deck and the California Towhees at my feeders. Recently, we had a friend's sometimes very loud Maroon Bellied Conure for a few days and within hours Murray picked up some of his vocalizations, thankfully at a much reduced volume.
I've attached a photo of Murray eating his favorite food, an English Pea. Photography does not come at all close to doing justice to the colors of this breed.
I am looking forward to reading and posting on the BB.
