Jimmy:
You story is very similar to mine. I got the Yellow Nape when a dear friend begged me to rescue her from one of her family members. She was living with the son of her aunt and uncle who had her for 18 years and decided they no longer wanted her. The son took her because no one else wanted her. His girlfriend destested the bird and took every opportunity to let her know. On Thanksgiving, I arrived prepared to grapple a fiesty YN to the ground. I even brought a leather glove, something I NEVER use. Well, as soon as I met Taco, she sweetly stepped up with no drama. I have been the recipient, as have you, of the famous Amazon crush. In the 3 years I've had her, she had never bitten me. She did about 6 months ago, however, when I blocked her attack of my Severe, Chi Chi, whom she despises. She was most embarrassed and also apologetic (LOL). Chi Chi is quite a character. I actually went to a pet store to look at a stuttering Umbrella Too I was thinking about buying as an anniversary gift for my husband. Fate intervened, however, and I learned that I am very allergic to Too dust. Upon exiting the bird room, I felt someone hop on my shoulder. I was pretty new to birds, only owning on Eclectus back then. I couldn't even see who was hitchhiking. The store keeper laughed when I asked her to please remove him. No one there could handle him. He seemed completely content to sit there and hang from the back of my collar everytime I tried to remove him. Finally, I decided that if he liked me that much, why not a Severe instead. I wrote the check for $1000 (I am such a pushover) and off I went, bird on shoulder, out the door. THAT'S how green I was! He is one of my favorite birds. He's funny, a great little companion, very "user friendly" and would live on my shoulder if I let him. He sings badly, talks up a storm and is my best dancer. We call him our own Sammy Davis Jr., Mr. Excitement! I don't believe in bad birds. Some are a bit more difficult, but when they give their hearts, you need only reciprocate. Frankly, if Severe's didn't have that annoying screech, they'd be the most popular bird out there. As for nippiness, that was only for one month. However, he is the one most likely to chew a hole in a shirt. I think we are LUCKY to have "the bad guys" amongst our flocks. Makes us look brave (LMAO). THE OUTLAW
