Hi Nikki82 - Welcome to Bird Board.

If you're not sure where to start your research, I'd highly recommend going to visit a bunch of different species to see if some personalities attract you more than others. In the Washington DC/Northern Virginia/Md. area, an organization called Phoenix Landing has events every month where you learn about parrots and can meet some of the beautiful birds up for adoption. This is a great opportunity to meet lots of different birds.

Yep, the best way to choose one is to meet them all so you can make a decision. They all have different personalities and issues to deal with.

Welcome!

I agree, I am new to the bird board, but i have had serveral cockatiels in the past. I currently have a handfed sunday conure. I did my research on conures and visited lots of birds and frequently returned to visit the same birds at different times before I purchased my lovely Layla.

Welcome to the BB!

It's great to research birds before you get them, that way you are ready for all the pros and cons. If you like blue, and you want a bird that's less needy? Read up on Pionus!
