parakeets needing a home

I have a pr of parakeets m/f they belonged to my daughter. She has gone off to college can can not take them. We are moving soon and I have problems with taking care of them due to allergies. I am nervous about putting a give away ad somewhere in case someone would do something not so nice to them. Is there a rescue service for parakeets? they are about 8yrs old and live in the columbus ohio area. they have a very nice cage and stand. If someone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it

HI! aND WELCOME! I live in your neck of the woods and can give them a home either wih me or a close family member. Others on here will attest to my wonderful fids and such. Are they tame? Its not nec - just want to know. Rescues for birds are usually piled up with Budgies. PM me if you want....

Thanks huntress for stepping in! Becky, they would be very lucky to go and live with huntress. If I was able to take more in I would, since I'm within driving distance of Columbus, but there's no way I can take any more birds (my 3 keep me plenty busy!).

Huntress I sent you a PM with my email address. Did you get it?

Sarah,
thanks ....I want the birds to have a good home. I have resisted putting a give away notice up anywhere out of fear that I would not know who they were going to...then I found this site. From reading huntress' profile I think my birds would be thrilled to be in that atmosphere. I have a dog and cat and they love watching them run around. They like an active household. Maybe with other birds around they could be let out once in awhile too.

I once had a tamed parakeet named tweety bird and he was very smart and I let him out daily. We got him a mate and they just loved each other. She was not all that smart but would follow tweety bird around when he would fly. Tweety got some sort of tumor and died and after that the other bird Kiwi was lost without him. She eventually died of a broken heart....anyway I am hoping to find a good home for my birds

Best of luck to you in finding them a good home.

My first little budgie was named Tweety too and that's what started my love affair with birds. I had him when I was a little girl. They really are sweet little birds and very affectionate especially if you have one by itself.

Yes I got your message today while at work. There is a hitch though. I have to work on hubby. Seems there is a set of four baby peacocks offered to me ( have wanted for years) and hubby is saying "THATS IT!" lol. Its never worked before. My Plans are to have Outdoor Aviarys for the small birds and the big birds. They would get to go in the small bird aviary if they stay with me. Gotta do some checking, give me a day or two. I work on the south end of Delaware County near Worthington. We could arrange pick up as i live much farthur north.

Huntress,
Thanks for getting back to me. I am in Dublin so we are not far at all. My birds would love your place but I understand about the hubby. I have one of those too. If it does not work out I understand. Just let me know.

I am assuming the outdoor aviary would be climate controlled?

No, they come in for the winter. I have a room for the small birds with UV light and stereo, lol and one pair of Greys. My four large pets are in the living room. They would be with the grass keets but in own cage next to them. Its the winter and yes it isnt as nice as summer but hey - it sucks for me too, lol, I love the outdoors. My small birds are out until its in the low 40s if they are conditioned (yours are not yet so they would be inside now until late spring). I will only have the four grass keets, the Whydah and your keets with the pair of greys in the bird room - the parrotlets are all sold and going to new homes soon. I cannot breed and handfeed that many small birds with my job now so I will just be keeping the pair of greys and grass keets (which have not produced yet ) now. gosh! - thats the whole honest truth. LOL, am I a horder?? hubby jokes about it,lol. but all I do is care for my fids and it makes me happy and content. :0 ;-)
