I am a first time potential bird owner and have been looking at the different types. I was considering a Quaker. Why do you think they are alot of work? I am looking for as much information about what I'm getting into before I make my decision. Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the board. I would also like to know why you feel they are a lot of work because honestly out of all of our birds our quaker is not the one that is the most work and I would never say that they are a lot of work. Quakers are great pets and they are a lot of fun. They talk up a storm and my husband takes his bird everywhere with him. Birds require work in general and for the most part you definately want to make sure that you don't get a bird and start out spending all of your time with it and then not spending the same time with it down the road. You want to make sure that when you get your bird that you spend the time with it now that you will be spending with it later. What I am saying is don't lavish it with love only to stop it down the road like if you went back to work or school or something. This info is for the person who said she was looking at getting a quaker. I hope this helps.

I have 10 large parrots. The only little one I own is Tilde, my quaker. Though small, there's NOTHING little about her. I think they are the most fun you can have for $300. As for messy, not at all compared to my big birds. I love quakers.

Question Quaker???

I was thinking about buying a Quaker for the summer. About how much would one cost? Would It be peacefull around lovebirds and cockatiels?

You can get a green Quaker for less than $300 in most areas. Make they are legal in your state though. In my personal experience I would not put a Quaker around lovebirds and cockatiels. In the same room would be fine, but never on the same perch or the same cage. My Quakers have all been very territorial. Quakers can be sweeties, but they are also the Yorkies of the bird world. They think they are big birds, and don't hesitate to demand respect.
