New to the board!!!

Hi! My name is Cami... I have a gorgeous Orange Wing Amazon... she is 3 months old and her name is Lola Vive!

I just wanted to join and get to know everyone and have a place to ask questions and learn more about my lola!

I got lola from a woman who did not actually breed her... it was a bad situation. I don't know the full story but she had placed an Ad on Hoobly.Com... I just wanted to go see the Bird... When I went the conditions were horrible... This lady had 3 large Amazons (Blue Front, Yellow Nape, and Orange Wing) in a cage sized for a conure. It just didn't seem like a normal set up for a reputable breeder. I asked if she had raised these birds... she said no... some lady just sold them to me... However with the location of their house... I think some how drugs or illegal things were involved... It just seemed weird. I should have just walked away however I couldn't leave lola there. She was so young and sweet, and I felt like she needed me. I took her after I left I called animal control/welfare... I knew that I couldn't take the other birds... but I couldn't just leave them there.

It happened very fast, but I feel that I did the right thing. She seems happy and healthy... very chatty... but also very young... I am not sure she was ever flighted... and she doesn't know how to step up... she can fly short distances and glides to the ground... however she will run into things... (her landings are far from perfect)... the lady also said she was still giving her "comfort feedings" so I have continued... just in the morning and evening... but Lola is eating her food... she was on a seed mix diet... I have always fed my birds Pellets... how should I transition her?

Thanks for your support!

Sounds like you did the right thing!! If she is that young I would think she would eat the pellets if offered to her. If not start to slowly mix them in with the seed mix adding more pellets every few days. I don't think it should take to long if she/he is only 3 months old..

Good luck

Chris

Wow ! I agree, you def did the right thing.

You could also add some water or apple juice to make them a little mushy and get her to try them and realize she loves them lol
