I agree with what mmr says - that I would definitely not try treating whatever this is yourself.

Can I ask... How do you know he HAS earmites? They are pretty rare in birds. Greys DO shake their heads a lot.

Well this is what I hear also but who knows why? One reply states noise is bothersome but I find that hard to believe.

Also...he doesent sit there "sickly" shaking away...I notice a quick shake on occasion and wonder why

Also my CAG that I have been raising for over ten years has always been doing this...so i just figured little mites took a journey over to the other cage and found their new host

i have on of those bird protecters on all of my cages it says it keeps them away so im assuming that if they have it it will make them leave or maybe kill them idk just a suggestion but but i think taking them to the vet would be best it should only cost around 35 for a vet check with out any blood work ect and a doc should beable to check them for that for the 35 dollar visit

My point is you have many people telling you it is common. So why question it especially if there are more than just a few. All birds have quirks! Mine do and I can honestly say I have no idea why?

ALso please keep in mind Parrots mask illness too well. By the time you think something is wrong or they show sighns of illness, it is usually too late!

Ear mights are not a common problem with birds. Greys do shake thier heads alot. Quick Jerks. they also tend to scratch thier faces alot. Its not an indication of ear mights.

Dog and Cat meds are much differnt then Avian medicine and some treatments might KILL birds.

Bird protecters are also very dangerous, and should not be used. The common ingredient is the same as mothballs, and can be deadly to your birds.
